It's better to be aware of what we are (biological machines) and learn about that as much as possible, then to live in an imaginray world of "souls", "gods" and similar load of shit, while trying to go "against" the "nature of a machine", while producing some kind of perverted manifestation of these suppressions/acting on a false belief of who we are (history is full of examples). While the transition from a state I'd call an "Ignorance" to an enlightement (education) which is - freedom/liberation of irratonal fears/beliefs, may prove to be quite intense (people taking the new acquired "freedom" to extremes), I can assurethese who are concerned - the "balance", as always, will be sustained after a while, after a few lessons here and there, just like it happens in all kinds of ways of life.
 

Atheism is nothing more but a manifestation of an education, and education proved to be one of very few things that makes humans to be closer to what we'd call a "humanism", NOT religion, and it was proven for many many times, over a few thousand years.
