Return half so the positive and negative thoughts in your head equal out.  Even Stephen. Cops do this all the time when they bust drug dealers. I've heard one guy(cop) say that they like to always take 51% and report 49%. That way the good guys always have the upper hand.lol

Interesting question to think "lost" money or anything is theft. There have been treasure hunters who spend millions of dollars to hunt in the oceans around the globe who are looking for other peoples "lost" treasures. Some have even been brought to court and forced to pay the bloodline of the so called owners treasure lost at sea hundreds of years ago.  If you find and Indian arrow head in the woods. Is it theft to take it? How much time has to pass before something is truly considered "lost"...

I'd invest it conservatively in a diversified portfolio and send the owner a yearly dividend.

to be honest I would return the money, it happened to me a few times and I always returned it (not 10k tho..)
