 ;D   back in 1947 phillies were trying to sign high school phenom curt simmons, to try and keep the price down the phillies came to simmons's home town to play against his legion team. the thought being that if simmons struggled against the mlb team he would come a lot cheaper. the 18 year old just out of high school struck out 11 phillies and would have won the game if not for two outfielders crashing causing the tying run to score. phillies quickly called the game a tie and offered simmons 65,000 dollars as a signing bonus huge money in those days. simmons is 83 still alive they are rededicating a field in his honor back in his hometown saturday...
