the most brutal drinker i ever seen is someone from my own family, its embarassing.
maybe tyhats what puts me off of drink(i do drink on nights out, but thats maybe once a month full out).
seems to be harder to stop drinking than to stop doing cocaine from what i see.
the drinkers who turn violent when drunk, i dont get that, why they do that, what is the root to this?
Higher estrogen due to alcohol increasing estro levels?

In Derek Sandersons new book (ex-alcoholic hockey player) he says:
1. A social drinker will have a drink, sip it, not really like the taste or buzz of alcohol. 2. A binge drinker can hold off all week, but when FRI comes around, they plan for an entire weekend of drinking. 3. An Alcoholic needs booze just to be able to function each day.
Many binge drinkers, drink because of boredom and anxiety. IF you keep doing 5 shots a day, that very easily can turn into someone who NEEDS booze just to get thru your day.

I know a guy that had drinking problems but now it's all about bodybuilding drugs. It's like he traded one addiction for another. When on cycle he looks really healthy and ripped which is a far cry from his out of shape drinking days. When he goes off cycle he's depressed and starts to look like crap again. Then the cycle starts again of buying steroids from dealers and juicing again. He tells me the dealer he gets the steroids from was the same guy he brought drugs from when he was drinking. Just sad overall.
I wonder how many of us are addicts in that realm. ?? Different poison - same game.

Get yourself a bag of dank. Not as bad for your body. Take a hit once or twice when you get out of work. Much better than drinking.
I can't smoke though. It makes me sick mentally. I can drink like crazy, but weed messes me up in some different way.

Stopping cold turkey can be a mind fukc. Might I suggest writing out drinking days like you might do with a diet. Try doing every other day for a month. Then every 3rd day. Then every 4th day. Working your way to once on the weekend. Then once every other weekend. Then once a month.

We all have an inner voice.
It is this inner voice that speaks first as a 'reaction' to any scenario. Let's say you run a business and you get a shitty email from a pissed off customer. That inner voice will knee jerk and your first thoughts will be to write a shitty email back.
Which of course will escalate the issue.
Many people have the ability to weigh things up beyond that inner voice, to not follow that first knee jerk reaction. The correct response from a business perspective is usually a polite reply that takes the wind out of their sails.
Same if you are married and your wife says something that annoys you - maybe it's just her telling you which car parking bay to head to. The inner voice tells you to snap back when the best solution is to let the small shit ride.
Anyway - that inner voice is your ego. What the booze does is subdue the real you, the rational you. It allows you to be driven by your ego, hence it tends to turn you into an arrogant, self-righteous, opinionated asshole because in the main, whilst the ego does serve a purpose, it isn't really the true you and it pays to keep it in check.
So - of course you tell it how it is on booze. The problem is that people have differing opinions about stuff. That's fine to most people but the drunk has a hard time with any differing opinion because his ego is in overdrive and he cannot keep his mouth shut when the slightest opportunity pops up to 'prove' he is right about something.
You don't really tell it how it is, you tell it how you perceive it is. Big difference.

My friend drinks like 15 beers a night. (He buys an 18 pack every day, talk about expensive). He usually has 2 to 3 beers left over the next day. His Dr. told him he cant quit cold turkey (on his own), or he'll go into a conniption. (Could seizure out, etc). Told him to check into rehab, or taper down weekly like a poster mentioned a few posts back. (Most people cant do that who are alky's).
Either way he's gonna be fecked in the future..

Many college kids drink everyday to being really drunk. I've read stories of people drinking like that for like 5+ years even after college. And then they just stopped but could still booze it up occasionally with no real problems. Boredom, depression and heavy drinking doesn't allows equate to alcoholism IMOP. But then again, what is the true definition of an alcoholic?

True, some people can binge drink for many years, then stop or enjoy on occasion.. It means they're physically not addicted, maybe a mental thing (boredom, depression, etc like you mentioned)...

I think it should be: 3. An Alcoholic likes the taste of alcohol and would drink it every day if he could.

When I'm single I turn into a crazy binge drinker. Can't wait until the weekends. Drink my ass off Friday and Saturday night and recover on the couch all day Sunday. When I have a girlfriend I hate drinking makes me sick.

Meh that's bullshit. If you like the taste of beer, or any other form, your an alcoholic. What your talking about is a product of chronic alcoholism. There's tons of different kinds of alcoholics. My uncle was a drunk for the early 80's, quit until 98 and now is jumping between homeless shelters. One of my friends is a fucking academic nerd, who spends his days talking about bacteria cultures, and than on friday he's blackout drunk by sundown. Does this every weekend, while being one of the top students in his school. Another drinks a six pack ever single day for years on end, gets dts and everything yet rarely gets drunk. And I love booze, I don't drink, mostly cuz I have no friends, but thank the fuck, I love booze it's like an instant anxiety reliever.

I don't drink for the taste. I drink for the feeling. It is a stress release for me.
