Isn't it time iReport's start to get paid?

I watch this stuff on CNN, they are called iReports, or aka using their audience to do the reporting for them for free.  How do they get away with this?  Aren't they suppose to pay people if they work for them?

I don't know about American laws except that everybody ends up in guantanamo but I assume there is nothing illegal in "contributing for free". As long as people do the job from their own will, that is.
