It may have been a legal shoot.  But:

The shooter had a history of alcohol treatement, pushed a cop a few years back and was charged with a felony, and had a restraining order for domestic violence.

The minute they punched his name into the FDLE Florida database, they knew that.

and the sanford PD didn't even run a blood alcohol level test on his blood that night.  They tested the dead kid for drugs, tho


The lead investigator on the scene believed it was not a legal shoot - BUT - the lack of evidence prevented him from charging zimmerman.  They didn't collect his clothing or blood.

This may just come down to lazy cops in a small town looking the other way on a guy that works with them keeping the streets safe, who despite his anger and drinking, they liked.
