He carried a good amount of muscle on frame and had great lines, etc..... He was a small man that took his physique to the max because he understood that, he understood that he couldn't out muscle the others so he had to do it with such things as proportion, etc.......

I can appreciate the freak factor in body building for what it is now.... but I also understand that there is also another side to to it, which Zane represented ably.

I half agree but then all smaller guys have better aesthetics so it's a cop-out. Hugh Jackman and Zak Efron are "aesthetic" because compared to bodybuilders they look human and normal and lean and svelt etc.

Bro some people can go into an art gallery and think the cheapest picture is the best one, cause they don't know what to look for in art picture. Not saying bodybuilding is an art or anything but people see big muscles most of the time, they can't see the difference between extremely aesthetic body to just a body with ripped mass. Zane had tiny ankle, knees and wrists, had some crisp striations, especially in the upper chest, was perfectly proportioned, had the same conditioning in every muscle group and had nearly transparent skin, this precision on a physique is nearly impossible to duplicate. People are blind

There was going to be a letdown after Arnold retired, no matter who succeeded him.  I like Zane, but there was a lost period from '76 to '83 similar to what we have after Ronnie retired.

If you took any one of Zanes body parts and just looked at that there was nothing special going on. But when you put them all together what a flow of balance and harmony. Look at the band of muscle separating his lat from his rib cage.
The devil is in the detail guys!

I can appreciate the classic lines these guys had, but bring on the massmonsters. If any of those guys had access to the shit they got today we would have had massmonters in the 70's. We would skip over the classic lines and never know the better.

People back then went bat shit crazy at BB contests.
Arnold has to speak very loud to come in clear over the audience.
Zane was in better shape than anyone but Robbie R.
is really the only one who has that WOW factor. He was
just too smooth for this one. He would win a lot of contests
during the year in great shape and never brought his best
to the Olympia.
In this shape here at the Night of Champions he would have beat
Frank.

Most important thing, he does'nt have V-taper at all.

Poor ratio between his shoulders width and his waist width .
No upper pec etc...
Would look like shit next to a guy like Shawn Ray, Peter Molnar, Labrada, Dexter etc...

He perfectly describe the poor quality of the level after Arnold area and before the arrival of Lee Haney.

robby was "supposed" to win that show, he was heavily touted by the magazines and got a lot of exposure building up to the show
