Microsoft Surface Tablet - Is this going to kill the Ipad?

I got one from HP for $99.  It doesn't look like the photo, is heavy as shit and lame OS.  I have an ipad as well and use that all the time.

Why doesn't it look like the photo?  Can you take some pix of this and share?  What (if anything) can this device do?  Can it surf the web? do email?  Was any software ever written for it?  When did you buy it?  Why?   I remember the tremendous hype that went into the Slate but it disappeared with such a whimper I was never sure its as every made or sold.
