All pro athletes are narcissists.  You pretty much have to be to devote your time and energy for ten or fifteen years into one thing to be near the top of whatever it is you do.  Doesn't matter if you are a sprinter or soccer player or swimmer or race car driver, do you think these people do what they do for the betterment of the world?  No, they do it because it makes them feel good, it's a rush and if you can get big money for it, yeah so much the better.  Sure, some guys give a little back after the millions start rolling in,like putting up a rec center for poor kids, but I think most of them do it because their PR guy says it would make them look good.  It's all about them either way.  Has anybody's life improved one iota because Michael Phelps won all that gold?  Just his.  Don't understand all the hate here for pro bodybuilders.  Yeah, sure there are alot of drugs involved, but you could do the same amount and you probably wouldn't get near an Olympia stage.  By the way, I've known a lot of competitive bodybuilders in the past and there work ethic in the gym was on another level.
Very good post here.

To each their own. Some like gymnastics, some like Tennis. Devotion and sacrifice is needed in any anything you do, including bodybuilding at a competitive level. What I don't understand is people feeling the need to point out that someones kidney is going to die.

Just imagine we start mentioning everything that could go wrong in every single sport or endeavor, I guess everyone would be stupid then.
