Randy Travis Cited For Assault, Not Intoxicated

More trouble for Randy Travis: The singer was slapped with a simple assault citation early Friday morning following an altercation in Plano, Texas.
Plano Police Department spokesman David Tilley tells ABCNews.com that Travis was not arrested and, despite internet reports, there is no indication that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Tilley said the department also has no record of the singer’s being transported to the hospital by the town’s fire department, as had been reported earlier. Tilley said all the parties involved refused transportation to the hospital.
According to Tilley, Travis intervened in a verbal disagreement between an estranged husband and wife. Travis is a friend of the wife.
“He stepped in and allegedly assaulted the man in some form,” Tilley said, adding that it was minor because he was only cited for a Class C assault.
Tilley explained that a Class C can be as simple as an unwanted touch to any physical contact that doesn’t cause pain or injury.
Police wrote him a ticket for the citation at the scene. His next step is to contact the Municipal Court to address the simple assault citation.
Requests for comment to Travis’s reps by ABC News were not returned.
Travis was arrested earlier this month for DUI and making felony threats against officers in Grayson County, Texas. The singer allegedly threatened to shoot and kill troopers who brought him into the station after he was found lying on the road near Tioga, Texas. His 1998 Pontiac Trans Am had veered off the road and hit barricades in a construction zone.
Travis was brought to the station naked, though it’s unclear whether the singer was discovered naked or somehow disrobed later, Sgt. Ricky Wheeler of the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office told ABC News at the time.
The singer was arrested early last February in Sanger, Texas, after a police officer discovered him drunk in his car with an open bottle of wine. He later blamed the incident on too much post-Super Bowl celebrating.
