In order to thwart the soviet progress in the region the taliban was supplied with weapons AND training by the USA

Correct, sir. Same as USSR supplied Vietkong during the Vietnam war.
Those were proxy wars.... bigger and smaller conflicts fought all over the world between USA and USSR and their satellite states on soil of some third party.

List of crisis they were somehow participants, from wikipedia
Cold War

Greek Civil War, 1946–1949
Malaysian Emergency, 1948–1960
Arab-Israeli Conflict, 1948–Present
Korean War, 1950–1953
Suez Crisis, 1956–1957
Cuban Revolution, 1953–1959
1959 Tibetan uprising, 1959–1973
Laotian Civil War, 1953–1975
Vietnam War, 1957–1975
Guatemalan Civil War, 1960–1996
Congo Crisis, 1960–1965
Bay of Pigs Invasion, 1961
Cuban Missile Crisis, 1962
Angolan Civil War, 1974–2002
Ogaden War, 1977–1978
Afghan-Soviet War, 1979–1989
Iran Hostage Crisis, 1979
Iran-Iraq war, 1980–1988
Invasion of Grenada, 1983
Nicaraguan Civil War, 1979–1990
Salvadoran Civil War, 1980–1992

All I can say is we live in very boring world today.

There's some trying in Syria but it's pretty lame.... Russians even froze their delivery of Yak's under pressure from "international community", though other deliveries keep flowing
There's no more ideology to fight for....... Fuk that liberal shit - Iron to borders and beyond !! Cheesy

True.
In world politics barely no one can be trusted. Everyone seeks their own benefit and is ready to betray their 'friends' whenever it becomes lucrative enough.

The Hollywood actor Reagan loved to go to the Bonhemian grove where lots of homosexual activities took place. I believe it was President Nixon who stated anyone who goes there are gays or some shit.

Reagan was one of the greatest presidents in the modern era. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either a flaming liberal leeching off the tax payers, gay or both.

Oh really?  And Regan`s response was to cut and run. Pack up and leave and do nothing.  After 241 American Servicemen were killed instantly.  No air strike, no nothing.  RUN. RUN. RUN.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Beirut_barracks_bombing

The Beirut Barracks Bombing (October 23, 1983 in Beirut, Lebanon) occurred during the Lebanese Civil War, when two truck bombs struck separate buildings housing United States and French military forces—members of the Multinational Force in Lebanon—killing 299 American and French servicemen. The organization Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the bombing.
Suicide bombers detonated each of the truck bombs. In the attack on the American Marines barracks, the death toll was 241 American servicemen: 220 marines, 18 sailors and three soldiers, along with sixty Americans injured, representing the deadliest single-day death toll for the United States Marine Corps since the Battle of Iwo Jima of World War II, the deadliest single-day death toll for the United States military since the first day of the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War, and the deadliest single attack on Americans overseas since World War II

The greatest threat to the modern world is technology.  Violence like this has been happening since the dawn of man.  The only difference is that everyone knows what happens around the world in minutes.

I'm pretty sure they were discussing the script changes needed to make RamboIII a success.

Reagan:"No harm meant, but we are forced to neutralize you sheep shaggers."
Rocksockman:"But, Mr. Amerikan... we friends with Rambo..."

Reagan:"Your wish - my command."

As much as I love Ronald Reagan he messed up on this one. Just a history lesson for you guys here. Terrorism was'nt a big thing back then. All we had were that the Soviets were invading  a country and expanding their territory. We supplied those Afghanistan with Stinger hand held missiles that took out the Soviets helicopters with ease. No one knew the radical Muslim terrorism problem that exists today would breed in that country.  Not the Democrats or the Republicans back then. We were all in agreement to stop the Soviets from taking control of the country. In hind sight we should have been fighting side by side with the Soviets.

If Reagan was at the power now, "there would be things" happening with the muslims attacking the embassies right now.

He would not just sit there and think" are there things ?" , he would have concluded that " there are things " right at the get-go/the first murder.

U.S.S.R - Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

Plus they were not "invading". Afghan communists "asked" help from Soviets  Grin

Ah, have I've missed you. Still doing your part to further the feminization of the male species. Bravo! And I see your copy and paste skills has not diminished with time.

What do you think our enemies would say if you ask them who they would rather deal with when it comes to their desire to take over the world, be it Soviet Communism or Islamic Fundamentalism? A Reagan or a Bush or a Carter or Obama?

Hope your training is going well and I have no doubt you are maintaining your sleek physique and still cut a fine figure in your kitchen apron. I'm sure you have some new muffin recipes to share from berries you and the lovely Jeezebelle go out and hand pick yourself as you both frolic in your garden.

And, of course, as always, please give my regards to the lovely Jeezebelle.

I would reconsider your position.   He killed manufacturing in this country and ballooned the deficit.

I would review your history. When he (Reagan) cut taxes government revenue increase. Government took in more money! And yes, with a liberal Senate and Congress, that actually authorize the spending -- not the President, the deficit increased. So the problem is not that the government doesn't take enough of your money, they took less under Reagan, the problem is the government spends too much. That's always been the problem. Not whether rich people get richer or get to keep more of the money THAT THEY EARNED! The problem is that no matter how much money the government confiscates from tax payers it's never enough. They always spend more.
