It was either a touchdown, or an incomplete pass. Couldn't rule it an interception, even though clearly it was.
Rule is that on simultaneous possession, the doubt goes to the wide receiver. And that's why bumblefuck the ref called "touchdown", because he thought he saw simultaneous possession. Clearly it wasn't. The wideout didn't have control. Hell, he didn't even have the ball in both hands, or against his body. The DB clearly had the ball in both hands, against his chest. So it's not simultaneous possession, in fact. It's an interception.
But, the ref claims it was simultaneous possession, hence, the touchdown. And you can't overturn the simultaneous possession call to create an interception. It's either a reception, or it isn't. Since clearly someone "received" the ball, it is there clearly "simultaneous possession", and since the tie has to go to the wideout, it's clearly a "touchdown".
This is my interpretation of the rule, anyways.
It starts with a bad ref making the wrong call on simultaneous possession, when clearly, it wasn't. He was standing over the two guys and still got it wrong. As bad as not being able to call a coin toss properly.
I suspect next MNF, this is exhibit A in everyone's favorite pre-game segment: "C'mon, Man!"
