I'm pretty sure Jay had no choice in the matter. Weider basically made him take Phil under his wing. Made him give Phil all his chefs info etc.  Jay didn't mind because he thought he would be out of competitive bodybuilding before Phil got to his level. Jay didn't realize that he himself is mentally ill like a lot of the pros and will compete until something explodes. And Phil moved up the latter a lot faster than most thought he would.

but why would weider or any of the powers that be have the power or even the desire to make cutler groom heath? and why heath? i mean years ago the powers that be saw his potential where others didn't and over the countless others?

and jay guest poses all over the world, countless other bodybuilders top amateurs and others i'm sure have talked to jay before or afterwards wanting advice, his friendship to move their careers forward, etcetera,, so why heath? why does heath becomes his bestest buddy in all of bodybuilding?

i guess simply who knows why one person becomes another person's best friend over others....

it must be tough on cutler knowing that just a few short years ago, he was guest poser at some show and some little known "nothing" like heath was competing and cut to a short time later, he equals and surpasses his "mentor and teacher" that would "kill" any champion i would think or anyone who is on the top in any field. i guess cutler can reason that 1) he was on the backside of his career anyway, not like he was in his prime when heath beat him last year and 2) if he has to lose to anyone might as well be his best friend...
