snx, it's not about women, although I'm using this word here loosely in regards to these "proud" beings, it's about parts of society that get instrumented to wreak social havoc. Could be anybody that jumps onto the empowerment bandwagon and lashes out onto calculated "enemies" within a group.
The average chick doesn't benefit from these holier than thou stool pusherinas.
This I completely agree with wise Bruce. Radicals are just that...radical. They have no place in society. However, often times, it takes radicalism to break through the crusts and layers of governmental and societal laissez faire.
I'm not endorsing their message. I think they're ridiculous and like any radical faction, deserve to be squashed. They're no different than radical muslims, right-wing christian fundamentalists, pro-lifers, anti-semetics, mysogynists, racists, black panthers, etc...it's all ridiculous.
The issue, as oft pointed out, is that radical groups can change policy in a democracy. Hopefully for the betterment of society to releive the oppressed. Sometimes, though, it goes awry. A wise government by the people, for the people, knows better. A bad one does not.
I decry the mesage. I don't decry the means. After all, were it not for radicalism, we'd still be ruled by the UK and blacks would still be slaves. So some good can come of it.
But I distinctly detect some men who feel geniunely threatened by a radical feminist movement. Of all the movements that bend towards radicalism, I find feminism to be amongst the weakest. They lack the drive to do the truly horrible things necessary to oppress another faction of society. Women don't kill/maim/rape/oppress/hurt other people nearly as well as men can.
Violence, and swift violence, is the great equalizer in a war. Women aren't capable of truly waging war on men, not to the extent that men can on women. Our genes are simply bred for it. Therefore, the fear is misplaced.
Let them eat their cake.
