Unless the president puts Biden in charge of negotiating a status of forces agreement, in which case there will be zero.
But wait, didn't the president and/or the vp say all troops were out in 2014?

Lets be honest with our selves: If OB didn't leave any troops in there people would be criticizing him for leaving it unprotected. anyone with any sense knows that a force needed to be left there. Just like in Iraq. Any repub pres would have been doing it.

We never, ever, leave countries we invade. We just don't. That's not how we roll. Once we invade you, be prepared to have a US military presence in your country for the foreseeable future.

Other than a handful, no there are no troops. No divisions, brigades, battalions, etc. I think we need to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan for the most part. What's "bad" is the president lying about ending the war in Iraq.

I read this a lot. Hell, probably said it myself. So what would have been a well handled war?

I don't know. Depends on what the military thinks is necessary to prevent the country from being used as a terrorist training ground again. I'd hope the number could be zero. Agree about Iraq.

are they just staying in the "non permanent" bases which happen to sit along what would be a "possible" oil pipeline pathway?
yeah, the 2004 conspiracy theorists that said we'd be there forever in those exact spots were kinda right, huh?

Its easy to second guess in the aftermath of something that's mishandled. I think arrogance to certain extent contributed to an aftermath plan that resulted in 8 years of insurgency. We didn't need 500K troops to win the war, but we needed more than the 150,000 we did have in the aftermath to keep order. We assumed they would embrace democracy and all behave.
