By the way.  Gloves don't protect the person getting punched, they protect the puncher form breaking their knuckles.

Those are secondary effects of gloves.

The guy who said they are for hand protection is correct.  The gloves being padded allow for numerous blows to the head which in turn can cause brain damage.
