What causes "steroid face"?
« on: December 13, 2012, 01:24:44 PM »
Yeah I know, but I didn't know what else to call it.  I've been a fan of bodybuilding since I was probably 4 or 5.  I grew up in the Conan, He-Man era.  My dad always had muscle and fitness magazines around so muscles never freaked me out.  Even on the woman.

Around 1991 or so I noticed I could tell certain athletes in various sports that seemed to me were on AAS.  What I realize now, a lot of it had to do with the facial similarities to some of my favorite bodybuilders.

What androgens are most responsible for the obvious physical change?  On the extreme side of the spectrum is Polumbo for example.

Extreme hgh abuse can make your jaw bigger, but the use has to be massive.

Most AAS "FACE" is caused by water retention and then again very low bf levels can make ones face look "weird."

Low bf levels combined w/(presumably) and increase in facial muscle structure def. can change ones appearance.

It just seems like there's that "something" that is unmistakably common to steroid users.

I guess your looking for the word "moon" face...from water retention using heavy cycles, it is a clear sign of steriod use and I try to avoid it by taking other "androgenic" steriods or some people use a diuretic..

No not moon face.  It's more pronounced when the face and skin are thin.

Think female bodybuilders and how they all share that same facial trait of drug use(masculinizing effect).  You can then see the same traits in their male counterparts.

The muscles around the mouth somewhat protrude.  Eyes look a bit sunken in?

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. You mean the contest shape face look right?

^

Both guys are dead. The look is probably just the drying effect of the diuretics.

ahhahaha

Maybe he suffers from acromegaly too though.

I walked by Maurice Green the sprinter one time during his competition years.  And that dude had "it" as well.

Competing gives you that look for sure.  But I have also seen some actors with it that don't have competition body fat levels as well.

My brother around 15% bf will look like a morbidly obese person if you only saw a face shot of him....and this is without any gear. Other people I know have lean looking facial features even though they have beer guts.

And yeah big difference in Maureen btw now and then...

Looks to be no less than 12-10 bf though during competition days though so not extremely dry or lean. I think it just comes down to how we store fat differently and your facial features.

You are thinking of "moon facies" that occurs from the use of prednisone, ACTH, Solumedrol, or Solucortef. The facies from over use of GH is one of acromegally. The face of an androgen prep is one of many zits. Sometimes this can become cystic painful acne on face, chest, shoulders, and back. Hope this helps.
