Supplements are a scam. They have a new crop of teenagers and twenty something every couple of years to sell to. All those guys in their glossy ads are steroid users. Off steroids and they wouldn't be hired to be in the ads.

The various protein powders are very expensive. You can get the same quality protein and save money by buying steaks, chicken, fish, eggs and greek yogurt. What would you rather have? A greek yougurt and a steak on your grill or a protein powder drink that you choke down?

Creatine works for some trainers. It's cheap but despite all those questionable "studies" out there I wonder about safety. It does make you retain water so it is effecting the kidneys that regulate water. It also can really irritate your digestive system to the point of having the runs.

Fat burners are caffeine and herb stimulants. Making yourself jittery isn't the way to lose weight.

Vitamins and minerals: I see no harm but I also see limited benefits.

Supplements are completely unregulated. The only time they are is when a problem is reported.  You don't know where they source out their materials. Distributed by is meaningless because you still don't know where they got the materials. Many of the various whey companies get their whey from the same source. You wouldn't want to ingest anything made in China. Sports Illustrated did a whole thing on supplements. One company was run out of a guys garage. He mixed the sourced materials there. Had fancy glossy labels for his containers. He also had slick ads in the bodybuilding magazines.

Ya some do serve a purpose; Caffeine, Ephedrine, protein shakes vitamins and minerals and essential fats, that's as far as my thinking brings me. Creatine and NO are a waste of time if you are on juice and if you are not the benefits a very minimal.

How about BOTH? One immediately after working out (shake) and the other about an hour later. It works for me.

As far as price goes, it's all about smart shopping. You can get protein powder quite economically at places like Sam's Club or Costco. Then, there's always (as I like to do) the clearance sales at GNC and Vitamin Shoppe. I just finished a serving of Soy Protein 95, a 4-lb jug of which I got for $12.50 last month.

GNC's "new" rules is that they can't mark down any other name brand product lower than 50%. But, they can mark down their own products as low as 75% off.

Creatine is time-tested and proven. 20 years ago, a small 300-gram bottle would have run you at least $60. Now, you can get twice that amount for $20 or less (with a free T-shirt, if you get Prolab's brand).

Supplements are like anything else that's sold today. You have your high-quality brands, your average ones, and your cheap-quality. In the end, it's about smart shopping.

And, it's not a "food vs. supplements" arguments. USE THEM BOTH. Get your diet down cold, as far as building mass or cutting fat is concerned. Then, add the supplements to get even better results.

good stuff, also pasturized eggwhites with coffe creamer is a good way to get 70gs of protien without getting full

I used to use half-n-half (as Gironda's recipe requires). But, after a while, it got too expensive and powdered milk was cheaper.

There is virtually no supplement that is worth being labeled as useful...maybe creatine and thats it, the rest of the shit is EXTREMELY OVERPRICED sugar with caffeine or powdered macronutrients or micronutrients which you can get cheaper in real food.

You pay hundreds of dollars for a 0.0000000000000000000000 000000000000000000000000 00000000000000001% advantage.

I used to buy whey, amino's etc... What a huge waste of money!! After research and soul searching, I decided to concentrate on real food.  I do take Vitamin-C 1000 non-acidic   and lecithin. Together they cost  $17.00 for a 100 day supply. It works out to $5.10 a month, not too bad for strictly health supplements. Being a family man, I also buy my "bodybuilding" food at Aldi. Oatmeal, eggs, chicken, and lots of fresh produce. Excellent prices!!  I feel better now than when taking all that crap.

Protein is a food, not a supplement. I don't mega dose it, but having a jug on top of the fridge for a quick 20 grams after  a workout is smart.

And it's dirt cheap if you buy smart. I don't know what kind of steak or chicken you guys eat, but there's no way it's cheaper than a 15 dollar jug of protein, gram for gram.

What macro/micronutrients would those be?

Protein? It depends on what you buy and when

Creatine? It takes 2 lb of red meat to get 5 grams of it. Good luck if you try loading for a week.

As for the pre-workout stuff (to which I assume you were making reference, with the "sugar with caffeine" comment), it is extremely overpriced, UNLESS.......... ;D

The advantage is hardly that miniscule and, again, it all goes back to smart shopping, as far as price is concerned.

Yes.

Plus, protein supplements are convenient.   I can take that with some almonds, apples etc at work easily.

$15 bucks for a container of Whey? Is that one pound of whey concentrate? Last time I was in a bodybuilding store the whey was $30 to $50 bucks plus a container depending on brand.

with a script you can get 10ml of test cyp generic for about $80 without insurance, or $5 if you have it.
The rest listed, well you need to trust your dealer but even then they get shit raws from China.  Either way, to see gains, it's the only way to go.  I just cannot believe how many pre-workout supplements exist, some companies have something like 3 to 4 of them.  Nothing beats taking an a-bomb and a shot of tren 1 hour before a workout.  TOTAL BEAST MODE.

Actually I had a script awhile back and was taking human grade test cyp, the delatestyral(sp.?) 5 ml bottles of 200 mg and I ran at least 10 bottles back to back and they where week compared too -as you put it - shit raws from China, The shit there is stronger if anything, they usually don't fuck with the juice cause to them the powders cost nearly nothing ( like one dollar per bottle) so they often overdose not under dose. It is the guys making it down here who are the crooks

yes, a-bomb before workout is the bomb 8) :D

You actually ingest it. It's called trial and error. Besides, I don't think you want to go there, in terms of talking about what could be in our foods. You may end up starving to death.

It's around $30 for a bag of whey protein (mainly concentrate) at Sam's Club. Of course, if you get GNC's brand of whey protein, on clearance, you can get 4-lb jugs for as little as $12.

About a month ago, I finished a jug of GNC's 100% Hydrolyzed Whey Protein, which I picked up for that price.

What is it with this paranoia of yours? I've been using supplements for over 20 years. The odds of you getting a jug or bag of protein that's just sugar are low, almost miniscule.

Again, like all products, you have your high-quality, your average, and your low-quality. All it takes is some smart shopping to separate the proverbial wheat from the tares.

Look at the supplement companies that have been around for a long time. Listen to word-of-mouth advertising from people who train in the real world. Plus, in this day and age of the internet, if a product is garbage, it won't take long for word to spread.

Again, I've been using them for over 20 years. I've seen them come and go. After a while, you get a feel for what's the real deal and what isn't.

not 250 a month and posting on BBing.com that I'm "seeing results" but when someone asks what those results are you say you "feel fuller and have more energy in the gym"....LOL

Ahahaha! 'Feel fuller' classic
