Obama wants to raise taxes on higher middle class families and keeps on talking about curbing spending. But then I am hearing about his inauguration where they estimate about two million people will attend. What's the cost for something like that? $50-$100 million?
So he wants families to pay $2000 more in taxes next year, so basically anywhere from 25000-50000 families are footing the bill for this shit.
It's his second term. Does he need such a large ceremony? Couldn't he just do it on the White House lawn with a couple hundred people? Is this guy the biggest attention whore out there?
Why not be a real fucking man Obama and instead tell the American people that instead of spending all that money on your ceremony that you will instead have a small one and take that money to hire a few thousand security guards to monitor schools across the country. Why not put that money to real use.
Fucking asshole.
I don't blame Obama per se for the cost of inauguration ceremonies; they have gotten more and more illustrious and more and more expensive over time; the trend line has been clear for a while. Heck, the cost for providing security at the event has probably at least quadrupled. It's just one more event that has become hyped as the 24-hours news networks struggle to fill the airwaves with content (and I use the term
very loosely).
With that said, it would be nice to see our elected leaders take a step back and say "well, at this difficult time, maybe we can cut back on the pomp and circumstance and take a
little off the hors d'oeuvre bill." Why can't Obama be sworn in by Roberts in the Oval Office, in the presence of his family, a few friends, a handful of the members of Congress and a small television crew?
