 Around here when the police confiscate firearms from felons or those associated with criminal activity, the guns serial numbers are checked and if they weapons are clean [not stolen etc.] the firearms are then sold back to the public at the sheriffs auction. The money is usually used to fund projects to help kids or other charitable work.
 win win.
