Washington (CNN) - Hillary Clinton hasn't even stepped down yet as secretary of state and there's already constant speculation as to whether she'll run again for the White House. While no decision from her on any future bid for president is expected in 2013, expect speculation about her future political plans to intensify throughout the New Year.

But if she eventually changes her mind and decides to run for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016, a new national survey indicates that the vast majority of Democrats would consider backing her as their party's nominee.

According to a CNN/ORC International poll released Sunday morning, 85% of Democrats and independents who lean towards the Democratic Party say they'd be very or somewhat likely to support Clinton if she runs for the Democratic nomination. There's a slight gender divide, with 93% of Democratic women saying they'd be very or somewhat likely to support Clinton. That figure drops to 79% among Democratic men.

(snip)

Romney's running mate tops the current GOP list of 2016 hopefuls. Three-quarters of Republicans or independents who lean Republican say that they'd be very or somewhat likely to support Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan if he runs. At a recent conservative awards dinner Ryan, the House Budget Committee chairman, joked about running for the White House, saying "know any good diners in New Hampshire or Iowa? I'm sure the press won't read too much into that one."

Fifty-nine percent of Republicans say they'd back Chris Christie.

maybe in 8 years he'll be ready.   he was intimidated in 2012, no doubt abut it.  that awkward kitchen thing, the street race protester... dude just had no ability to CONTROL a room you see from a jeb or hilary or christie.  You gotta RESPECT a MFer... FEAR them... know they'll put you on your ass... Ryan doesn't project that.  He let drunk uncle joe push him around in the debate.  He's still a wimp, sad to say.

he not only lost his home state but also his home town

he's way too far to the right to get on the ticket much less actually win a national election

You're entitled to your opinion.

I don't think he will and if he does I don't think it will matter

just my opinion

Keep in mind that Palin was considered a GOP front runner for 2012 right after the 2008 election

How did he lose his hometown? He got re-elected to his congressional seat. And, last time I checked, people voted TOP of the ticket.

you know exactly what I'm referring to and like McCAin/Palin people voted or didn't vote for Romney/Ryan

the bottom of the ticket is not irrelevant and no doubt there were people who chose not to vote for Romney because they didn't like Ryan jut like there were people who voted for Romney even though they didn't like him but liked Ryan

BTW - Ryan also LOST his hometown in the race for his re-election to the House

WOOO

i think paul ryan has a very good chance at becoming president if he gives up on his anti-abortion and anti-gay marriage viewpoints.

  • Dumb people think Trump is smart.
Ryan is done.  He's only going to fade into the background now.  Bye Bye Eddie Munster.
