I did the bulking thing and got fat. I would rather say increase cals slightly above maintenance and aim for lean gains.

i've been on a bulk for the past 3 weeks and i've put on about 15 pounds over these 3 weeks

i started this bulk @ 6-7% and i'm still sitting at sub-10

once i hit 12% then i'll most likely do a short cutting phase

i check all this by keeping an eye on my ab skinfold and i started at 6 mm and now i'm at 8 mm and i won't let myself go over 10-12 mm on my ab skinfold

in my personal experience having never used gear the only changes of noticed by radically upping my calories is increased strength & recovery and bigger poops

but it works pretty well after a depletion phase ie. going lo cal and getting ripped, coz then the body is primed and ready for the extra cals

i'm in my 3rd week of this and it won't last much longer til i start getting "fat"

maybe 3 more weeks if i'm lucky

the key to it all is making sure your training poundages go way up, coz then that's a signal that many of the extra cals are being used to build and add lean muscle tissue

i'm hoping that i cam get another 3 weeks out of it, but we'll see...

Be careful on going too low cals you might risk muscle tissue it should be a gradual drop as well.

well man, my plan is to just kinda "solidify my gains" and keep the cals at bout maintaince after the 4-6 week bulk phase, and then maybe go on another bulk after 3 or 4 weeks at maintaince

I'm a Mentzer fan, but the HD diet isn't a great pov imo.
