Talk to him. And not about the cancer. But about life. Listen to him. Most people want to just be heard. Ask questions about dealing with family, life, and focus on good times. Talk about his hobbies---fishing, cars, etc. and maybe in his honor, take it up. learn from him. You'd be surprise how people feel to NOT have to focus on their illness and be treated like a normal human being instead of a pity-case.

Agreed my dad died last year so I know what you are saying. You just got to befriend a dying person, listen to them.

tell him to start lifting weights and consume cabbage puree shakes

life takes some effort to be alive and live, it aint no freebee

take enough cabbage puree and youll know your alive even as you feel the life fall out of your bottom evenif you already felt the bottom fell out of your life

Just talk to the man as if you would anybody else, you don't have to talk about death, or unload some long winded philosophical gem.  We're all dying, it's just a matter of when, do you want some jerk off coming up to you and talking about how sad it is that you are going to die.  If they want to talk about it fine, but no need to change the way you interact with anybody just because they are dying.
