"The Newtown Board of Education will be asking the town to make room for more armed police officers in its budget.

In a meeting Thursday, the board voted to request the town to add full time uniformed school resource officers to its four elementary school s for the next fiscal year was approved this evening. The officers would be Newtown police officers.

“Our parents are demanding of us that things are made safe and secure and certain measures areput in place,” said Chairwoman Debbie Leidlein. “So we’re being very thoughtful.”

Multiple police officers have been stationed at all Newtown schools since the December 14th shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary killed twenty children and 6 teachers. Those officers will remain at the school through the remainder of the school year. For the next fiscal year, resource officers were budgeted only to be at Middle and High Schools. ..."

It really seems like a decent idea as a deterrent.  Most of the shooters are going to "gun free" zones, because they're pussies.  They're not looking to get into a fire fight with opposition.  If every school had armed officers on premises all day, the shooters would possibly think twice about picking the school as a target.  Maybe they'll choose the local wal-mart or mcdonalds instead.   :D

i was a teacher for 7 years.

Every school has 70 to 100 employees.  There are always "administrative" people with their masters degree who end up wandering the halls with a clipboard trying to look busy.  There are always assistant principals, guidaince counselors, and others that just seem to have 2-3 hours to waste each day.

Scale them back, make schools split them, etc, and just put one full-time officer in each school.  It's a $40k salary... you have these digital 'smart board' overhead projectors (interactive and connected to computers) that cost $40k EACH and many are sitting unused.  Priorities!

In Florida, there are a LOT of people carrying concealed weapons in places like this - particularly in the poor areas.  You see a lot of people who drive a $600 Dodge to Walmart, but they are carrying a $600 Glock in their small-of-back as well.

The bad guy won't look twice at the 73 year old man looking like he needs a diaper, using his shopping cart for balance.  However, that old man cleans his gun 3x a week, hits the gun range every Saturday, and will calmly bring war experience to a situation by putting 4 rounds into the back of some untrained, stoned, frantic shooter deciding to open fire at a walmart or McD.

Nice fantasy! Is that from the NRA Masturbation Guide?  The way it normally goes down in Florida, is some unarmed innocent citizen like a teenager walking back from the shops after purchasing some candy and a refreshment or a door to door salesman is brutally murdered by some deranged conceal and carry paranoid and delusional NRA member.  Or the case of angry fat Michael Dunn, who murdered an unarmed teenager for playing the music too loud in his car at a service station.  Yeah the fantasy sounds awesome, the reality is the opposite, rather than being protectors, Conceal and Carry wankers become crazed vigilantes that just present one more NUTTER who could potentially murder you for no other reason than a CRAZED recording of NRA messages constantly playing in their heads.

bro when the military orderes a new socket wrench one piece is about 800 bucks, dont worry about money as if its some real thing. the money will be made out of thin air, dont worry about trying to organize it for them.
