Might as well throw John Hurt in the mix. Pretty solid actor whatever the role is.

He lost me with Tinker Tailor Spy. Great book, but that movie was slow.

I'm not an actor but I've been on many movie sets and sat on a few audition boards and always find it fascinating to watch an actor suddenly become 'someone' entirely different than he actually is.
A couple of family members are actively involved in major movie productions as actors and stunt performers and during family gatherings everyone 'becomes someone else' for a few brief moments ... CAGE, BRANDO, ARNOLD, DENIRO, ETC..... and it's always very surprising and entertaining.
But the kids (4 and under) always complain and want their daddy back.

He once had: Panic in Needle Park- great junkie The Godfather- great law abiding citizen turning into ruthless mobster Serpico- great righteous cop Scarecrow- great drifter Dog Day Afternoon- great TBombz of his time And then, it just went downhill with the occasional flashes of greatness.
