President Obama, fresh off outperforming Conan O’Brien at the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday, let the good times roll during his speech at the National Academy of Sciences.
 
“Part of what's made the academy so effective is that all the scientists elected to your elite ranks are volunteers — which is fortunate because we have no money anyway,” Obama said to laughter.
 
Earlier in the speech, he pointed out that the scientists’ predecessors helped the Navy fight the Civil War. “So right off the bat you guys were really useful,” he said. “In fact, it’s fair to say we might not be here, had you not [helped]. Certainly, I would not be here,” Obama added, to laughter and applause.
