Well, the initial quote i responded to was referencing the times pre-dating Jesus Christ. Between then and now, population growth has sky-rocketed due to various reasons.

As to address "acceptance/tolerance", this is without a doubt a fact given various countries passing legislation legalizing gay marriage, in addition to the secularization of society, at least in modern western countries.

It is safe to say, being a homosexual in conservative Christian America/Europe of the 18th/19th century was not well received as it is today.
