and the way the candidates campaign, once you give any form of assistance, you can't take it away.  Otherwise, you're now the candidate that hates poor people.

hey, there are times when that safety net is the only thing that keeps a person from homelessness.  mom dies, they lose job, they blow out their knee stepping over a curb,  car blows engine in the same week, ya know?   emergency assistance is fine, as long as it's short and the person is working nonstop at the same time.  

if you're smoking pot at home on welfare, then you should be kneecapped.  But a little help is okay.
