We should fight radical islam with solar-powered ,single shot muskets that fire bullets made out of recycled cardboard boxes. Our strong commitment to environmentalism will convince the Islamists to put down their guns and renounce terrorism. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict will be solved overnight.

I still believe we should develop a non-lethal weapon involving pigs blood under extremely high pressure, fired from something similar to a water cannon. These weapons should be wielded by well endowed women wearing nothing but pasties and g-strings.

I'm guessing the real reason is that they discovered a stockpile of copper sitting around from decades back and that's cheaper to use up than buying lead.  If only they could gold plate DU rounds now, that's gotta be more environmentally friendly lol...
