Thanks for sharing your stories.

He's far from stupid, just has a tough time with everyday life skills that help people get through life. There seems to be extreme inattention to priorities in life, and what needs to be done. A lot of times I think he needs to stop being lazy, and will his way through it but I think a person with an ADD mind has a tough time with these things.

He does seem to do okay when he stays busy, but if he has to self-regulate his activities he seems to have a very tough time.

My nephew has ADHD and has been on Ritalin since he was a young child. He has a history of making poor decisions which have sometimes gotten him into serious trouble. In addition to being ADHD he could be a poster boy for children from dysfunctional families.

My sister and her husband (my nephew's stepdad) were both drug attics and alcoholics who never amounted to anything. They are both deceased now. My nephew ended up in foster homes much of his childhood. I seriously doubt he had any structure in his life prior to becoming an adult. He is a great guy with a heart of gold and as gullible as they come. I wish him the best in life.

What is impossible to know is whether his misjudgments are a result of his youth, his ADHD or his lousy childhood. My guess is all these things have played a role in the mistakes he's made. If I could grant him the wisdom to never make another bad decision, I would.
