Why did Johnny Fuller have that bloat look? Like his midsection was curving outward.

2     William Mitchell (1)
3     Normand Vigneault
4     Chris Fakuzawa
5     Glenn McMahan

I attended these two contest before the Mentzers were well known/famous.

Held at Mt. Park Amusement Center Holyoke Mass.

Run by legendary muscle control artist Ed Jubinville.......no entry fees, free admission, and Jubinville donated the trophies out of his own cash............ I saw guys like Katz,Arnold,Franco,Warren Fredericks,Leon Brown,Pete Caputo,Joe Ugolik,Stan Ugolik,Skip Robinson, and even Big Louie before he was known outside of NYC.

In fact, lots of scenes from some of the shows held there are in both the movie and the book,Pumping Iron and I`m in two crowd scenes in the movie PI.

My claim to fame!  ;D

I saw Franco blow up the hot water bottle and bend the re-bar between his teeth, and he was more impressed with Ronnie Magnum than he was to hear the accolades of the crowd.

The contest Ronnie Magnum won is also on www.musclememory.com where I got these results from.

I used to enter the odd lift contests there that were put on befoe the bodybuilding contest.......never trained for them though,Ed would just call me out of the crowd so I had no choice but to compete.

Great times, sadly gone now,but not in my memory.

There was a lot of bs about Fuller. Black belt in Karate and able to run a marathon in a crazy fast time. I don't remember what it was but it was something like 2:30.  I doubt he did 32 reps for 32 sets.

Absolute beast.  Nice guy. Loved his vodka I seem to recall.

Ya Parker, he certainly had one of the first distended abdominal walls.  I do not know why.

I also saw Don Modezelewski there...he used to train with Steve Michalik.

His arms were almost as vascular as Hazbins and completely huge and developed.

He was totally white/pale as were a lot of guys back then.

Some used Sudden Tan,Dye-O-Derm,or just baby oil with iodine mixed into it.

A pic of Don:

Shit,I got my first set of vinyl coated weights from Sears back in 1969.

Franco was still in Italy boxing tomato cans and produce!!  :D

I did compete in powerlifting in the early to mid 1970`s.

I was thrilled when I saw my name in the back of this magazine with the power meet results:

Lost about 500 mags but bought this one again a couple of years ago on E-Bay just for the fuck of it.

Contests was the 1974 Boston Open Power Meet,of course the results came out a year later as usual.

The physique contest started at the stereotypical midnight hour and it was the first time I saw Lenny Archambault with Manuel Perry.......Perry was his training partner.

Lenny won,Manny got second.

When I was on the wrestling team in High School I always had to lose weight to 'make weight' for the upcoming match. We use to wear those rubber suits and jog in place in a sauna !
Probably kill me if I tried that now  ;D

Hey Rick,I did do one teen age contest in Worcester Mass.,wore swimming trunks, had about 11 inch "guns" and 16 inch quads with no tan.

I don`t talk about it often!  :D

Since then after many hours of squatting,I have brought my quads up to a whopping 18 inches! ;D

Saw Boyer Coe there though.....impressed me to this very day.

Looked like living sculpture come to life.

You got that right!!

It takes a special kind of lunatic to pit your body against heavy iron on a daily basis and eat shit that would make a billy goat puke all for a piece of plastic, and actually look forward to doing it.

But we`re the best built lunatics on the planet!  ;)
