I disagree. People can have an opinion about him without being part of a clique. That there are cliques on here who share opinions about certain posters goes without saying. It doesn't mean people who may agree with them are part of their social ensemble.

No one can know what motivates the guy besides him, obviously. But based on his online behavior, it's fair to draw the conclusion he likes negative attention and has personal issues. Anything else is speculation. So my post was entirely valid. That you consider him a friend or someone you tolerate on here doesn't invalidate people who don't share that opinion. I'm sure you agree that we're all free to say what we feel about people, whether right or wrong.

Im not sure if his telephone persona is just another way of pulling the wool over someones eyes.

That's the nature of most any message board or even real-life social environments. People will carry you on their shoulders when you're the center of attention, only to pillory you the moment you're no longer present and involved in the scene. If he came back tomorrow, half the people ripping on him would probably welcome him back. Nothing shocking about that. It's a reminder that you can't generally trust people who wish you well to your face.

Now, since you've had real-life contact with the bloke your opinion of him obviously carries more weight than someone who only knows him from his posts. But I think he'd be hard-pressed to deny that he does attention-whore, whether it's just for laughs or legit. So he shouldn't be surprised if people pick on him for that.

Many people are unable to distinguish between "online behavior" and how someone actually talks and behaves in real life and until you get to know that person all your assumptions....are well just that...assumptions.
