Video stores tend to be around poorer areas.  There are still some left, I don't know how they stay in business.  Maybe selling popcorn and sweets?

A great idea would be to open a video store in a phone booth.

Would be a money maker if the videos were porn and on a screen in the booth. Also would require a sperm catching device to keep it sanitary.

I remember our local video store. It had a decent horror selection, that for some reason had all the goriest films down at the bottom where our little 8 and 10 year old eyes could see. I remember the giant boxes that b grade horror and action films would come in, we saw some real stinkers, but discovered some real gems in with them. I also remember stupid arguments with my friends over silly things like whether Faces of Death was real and the like.

I also remember the adult part of the store, it was this little bump out next to the comedies where a pink curtain was hung up. There was a huge fight that happened when they caught the local special person whacking it back there. Half the shelves tipped over, and someone cut themselves up on a few of those plastic video case slides that snapped off.

The late fees were the worst though, it was like $3 a day, and a $1.50 if you didn't rewind.

It closed in like 1995. the other local closed around 2006.

There is one like that near where a friend's mom lives. It rents a few films, but the money is made in selling foreign films (mostly spanish) and porn to older people and drunks. They also offer stuff like microwave popcorn, and tchotchkes.

Alright, how about a Video Store that's inside a Phone Booth that's inside a Vinyl Record Store that's inside an Immigrant-free Zone?

I read a lot of books and when B&N closed down the only other local place to buy books was at the grocery store, but that selection was very limited.

So someone gave me  one of the original KINDLe e-readers .... which at first I didn't like but   eventually I got hooked on the simplicity of downloading a book immediately over the internet and the ability to read it under any and all  lighting conditions.

At present I am on my third (3rd) KINDLE (HDX 8.9 with 64 gigs) and am thoroughly hooked on placing way too many orders (books, videos, computer accessories, cameras, vitamins, etc., etc.) because things are relatively cheaper when purchased via Amazon and when you become a PRIME MEMBER ($80 a year or thereabouts) ... everything you order is sent free of shipping charges.

And you also get more FREE  movies and TV shows than you can every watch within your lifetime.

ANd all that stuff is downloaded immediately with one click of the "order button".

I honestly think that this is the way everything will be done within the next 20 years or so.

QUESTION .... Once you watch a movie in a theater or a video at home ... under what conditions would you go to the store and buy yourself a copy??

And ... Has anyone ever watched every episode of every season of any given TV show within a period of seven days?

Such as every episode of every season of DeXTER, or BREAKING BAD,  or THE SOPRANOS, or BROADWALK EMPIRE, or  IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, or ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT, or TEEN WOLF (a surprisingly good TV series by the way!) ,   etc., etc., .... within a time frame of one week or less?

ANd what is you singe favorite TV series over the past 10 years that is no longer on TV.

And your favorite TV series that is currently running.

I'm interested in any response because I've never been a TV fan until this new KINDLE arrived and we are  planning to install a an updated home theater shortly and would like to have a library of the best productions available eventually.

Thanks!

It has to have multi viewing watchability. I'll also buy a product if I want to reward an actor, author, band, etc.... for putting out a superior product. I do this quite a bit for books and smaller bands.

I'll also buy it if I think there is a chance it might never show on Netflix or Youtube, or the like. Usually I do it for stuff like horror films or old tv series. For instance, I bought a set of the old HBO comedy 1st and Ten, because I'm pretty sure it would be a long time before I saw it again.

Sure, the last three I can remember doing this for were Mad Men, Banshee, and Orange is The New Black.

Deadwood. I absolutely loved that show. It's my top HBO or cable series.

Boardwalk Empire - Mad Men - True Detective - Game of Thrones - Sons of Anarchy, in that order.

VHS times were golden times. I vividly remember seeing Predator for the first time... first movie my mom ever rented for our new Siemens VCR.
Still have 2 original tapes - Roboman featuring the incredible Reb Brown and a GGG flick with a hot brunette. Other than that a heap of old tapes with italian porn which ran on TV for some years.

DVDs are cool but I sharper is not always better - even worse is blue ray where some of the films look like theater plays featuring cheaply dressed actors.

I do miss the spirit of the 80ies and early 90ies.
Today's tech should just be provided as is without stupid ads and all that shit that nobody really needs.

BB, Thanks, some of those you mentioned will be a priority on my collection list.

I already have Season One of GAME OF THRONES  which is still unopened and Seasons One and Two of BROADWALK EMPIRE which I really liked but disliked the fact that they killed off the somewhat related kid too early in the season. I have forgotten those details because I watched both seasons when they were first released.

It seems that everyone liked DEADWOOD but I still have no idea what that one is all about, but will order it soon.

Thanks for the help.

Love Deadwood, too. I was late to it, so I watched it on disc. The full-on profanity caught me off guard at first, but you see how it is so integral to making the show work. And then the characters are so fully fleshed out. Outstanding.

That's a pretty fucking ignorant good plan. I'm sure there are some Getbiggers stupid intelligent enough to recognize this as a retarded quality idea and break out the cash to get it going. I know I won't will be checking for money I can put up.

I miss going to Blockbuster, even though they rarely had what I was looking for. Netflix is much better for older or more obscure titles, but the shelf browsing was something I always looked forward to. RIP.

The occasional rare movie that seems to me like an instant classic. It just depends. "Scarface" comes to mind because I always enjoy it every time. Or a part of a franchise, like "Casino Royale" and "Skyfall".

Generally speaking, I don't feel the need to buy movies I have already seen.

A season of a series in seven days, yes. Every episode of an entire series in seven days? No.
Who has that much free time?  ???

Do you guys realize there are no more fucking video stores...  :o :-[

Thinking about opening one with VHS tapes for the sake of nostalgia.

Only the local adult video stores are still in business in my neck of the woods....I guess some business will not go away not just yet.....lol....there is a blockbuster store that will finally close it's door in April here.....I've known this store for 19yrs.....it was doing good business even when blockbuster started closing their stores 4yrs ago.......ALL HAIL NETFLIX
