In my opinion though, it's the leftists that have gone bat shit crazy and absulutly veered off to the FAR left, causing the great divide completely on their own. It looks like everyone else just wants to basically stay the course and live their lives.
Ask yourself this...if you started on the East Coast (Right) and went Left (West Coast) and continued to your point of origin, you ended up the same place, correct?
If you keep going left, you will end up on the Right.
And that is what I believe will eventually happen. We will go so far left, that we will end up Right.

Depends. Our American culture doesn't promote many certain Latinos communities in integrating with society. When American businesses promote the "Si Hablo Espanol" agenda among other things, what happens is the communities become segregated. They is no need for dealing with gringos, in fact many dont want to deal with us except for money. And many don't respect a nation that allows that. There is no fostering of respect for American culture or laws.

Our liberal agendas have effectively killed American nationalism, to the point that many people who come here don't want to be "American" but want the American dollar.
We are all effectively slaves to corporations.

Always interesting to read your posts, some of the best stuff on here. Keep it up!

Think the problem is not so much marriage itself, but the 'inevitable' divorce.

In the Netherlands, when a woman wants to divorce and has no income, her soon to be ex husband has to pay for her lawyer. If she wants an ugly divorce to strip her ex from everything he owns, he still has to pay HER lawyer to strip him even further! Every time she summons her lawyer, he has to pay for her lawyer, his own lawyer and to go to court again...

On the other hand, refusing alimony is quite hard or nearly impossible. So even if the ex wife wants to be nice and let her ex husband have his money, the law forces her to receive alimony...

I'm all for emancipation, as in equal rights. Not for this feministic bullshit.

I know of a situation exactly like this one, a guy was telling me last week his friend had hung himself 2 days earlier because he lost everything in a divorce.

Easy Solution. No Marriage. You have to be logical with things, marriage = huge amount of risks. No reward.

The problem isn't marriage and it isn't women. It never has been. That's the symptom of a societal problem.

The problem is rampant consumerism, driven by a ruthlessly utilitarian approach to all things (i.e. all things can be bought and sold, and all things can be reduced to a utility value...in short, everything you have or want can be valued at X dollars).

We've fallen in love with acquisition. We believe all the things we'll ever need in this life can be easily purchased.

You might say only a fool believes all things worth having can be bought, yet we must then admit the entire western civilization is populated by a steady stream of fools. Because we truly all do believe this. How many threads are we going to have on this site alone where we lament that some "10" female has been "bought" by some oligarch.

We all believe this, and act accordingly.

And this, my friends, has led to the corruption of the union of marriage. Women are led to believe that their companionship should be purchased, and can be acquired for the right amount of money. Should someone offer more money (or the current suitor not offer enough) then the consumerist relationship ends in divorce.

Likewise, men treat women the same way; if she doesn't succumb to his needs for all that he provides, he seeks to end the relationship.

Men simply lament the olden days when the consumerism of marriage tipped in their favor. With a more egalitarian approach (perhaps, even tipping to favor women), men are left holding the proverbial bag (a position held by women for millenia).

Am I absolving women? Absolutely not. How about men? Nope.

We are all to blame.

We are all slaves to the things we see on TV; the rampant desire to acquire is symptomatic of a void that exists in us all. A void that can only be filled by true human connectivity. Stripped of this basic human need, we fill the void with shit from Ikea, or a stupid new Infinity, or a house with 4.5 baths and 3-car garage. We slave away in jobs we hate just so we can stuff our bank accounts with money to buy this crap in the hopes that it'll make us feel something...anything.

The truth is, our answer is all around us. Find a good person who eschews materialism, and for christ's sake, hang on to them with both hands and don't let go. Not for anything. They are the only thing worth hanging on to in this world hell bent on buying itself into an early grave of anonymity, heartlessness and emptiness.

It's still not too late to get married to a good person. You just have to be choosier than ever. There aren't a lot of good people left. For all I know, you might not be one of the good ones anymore. Shit, maybe I'm not either. But I like to think and dream that I can be if I remind myself what's right, what's important, and what brings real meaning to life.

All true and well-spoken ^^^^

But spending excessive amounts of money and gifts on money to win their affections or keep their loyal is a male proclivity. Women don't lower themselves to that level. Just bear that in mind.

Very smart guy, but this isn't the Sterling thread. There's nothing to suggest this guy didn't marry for love, as opposed to some sugar daddy just looking for a trophy wife. He was only 45, do we even know what she looks like? I think your hypothesis only applies to a small percentage of wealthy, blue-haired schmoes.

Cool beans.  But I don't see how that plays into a divorce system developed in the 40s and 50s.  I don't need to know why my blood is red, or that because of human physiology and evolution my skin is naturally weaker: I just want the bleeding to stop.  Philosophy won't fix problems.

And sorry for women, minorities, etc., but justice and equality is not a pendulum.  I'm sorry my male ancestors had power over their female counterparts.  Don't punish current man for that.

Billionaire Bernie Ecclestone gets $100 million a year from his ex-wife Slavica

LONDON: For most billionaires, the greatest fear in getting married is what the divorce might cost. Not so Bernie Ecclestone. Official court papers show the formula one tycoon is, as a result of his split from his second wife Slavica, perhaps the world's best kept man.

Documents show that since his divorce in 2009 he has received $US500 million ($540 million) from his ex-wife's trust fund. In a highly unusual divorce settlement, rather than Mr Ecclestone paying Slavica Ecclestone a good chunk of his fortune, she appears to be paying him at the rate of $US100 million a year.

The details of the divorce settlement are disclosed in a 256-page indictment, laid before a German court last week. Mr Ecclestone is currently on trial in Munich, where he is accused of paying a more than £25 million ($45 million) bribe to a German banker.

The indictment states; "Since his divorce from his wife, the accused has received payments on the basis of the British decree nisi. The payments amount to around $100 million a year. The duration of the payments from the divorce decree is not known."

Mr Ecclestone, 83, was married to Slavica, his second wife, for 24 years until their divorce in 2009 on the grounds of his "unreasonable behaviour". He married his third wife, Fabiana Flosi, 36, in 2012.

When he and Slavica - who is 28 years his junior and at 6ft 2in, almost a foot taller - divorced five years ago, it had widely been assumed that she was in receipt of the biggest divorce settlement in history.

Reports suggested that she had been given more than a billion dollars in a deal agreed behind closed doors. The truth, as with much of Mr Ecclestone's affairs, is more complex. According to the indictment, the details of the divorce settlement were given to the German prosecutors in testimony from Frederique Flournoy, a director of the Ecclestones' Bambino trust.

The family trust is based in the tax haven of Liechtenstein and its beneficiaries are Mr Ecclestone's ex-wife and their two daughters Tamara and Petra. It was set up in 1997 and is thought to be worth more than £2.4 billion.

Mr Ecclestone's assets were transferred into his wife's name in the 1990s at a time when he faced heart problems. Slavica had not lived in the UK long enough to be domiciled for tax purposes and, had he died, she would have had to pay 40 per cent inheritance tax on money received from him. Normally, spouses are exempt from this.

To prevent his income from being taxed, Mr Ecclestone transferred his most valuable assets, the entire share capital of F1's parent company, to a Jersey-based business called Petara which was ultimately owned by his ex-wife. She then put the shares in the offshore Bambino trust, meaning no tax has been paid on the money raised by his 2006 sale of F1 to a private equity firm.

The catch is that, as a UK resident, Mr Ecclestone is not allowed control over the trust, otherwise he risks an inquiry and hefty tax bill. The set-up led to the unusual divorce settlement in which the trust paid out to Mr Ecclestone. What Mr Ecclestone has been doing with his £60 million a year trust payments is not clear.

While generous to his children, Mr Ecclestone, the Depression-era son of a Suffolk trawlerman, is known to count every penny. He is said to own a number of private jets, a chalet in Gstaad and a 190ft yacht. But those were assets acquired before his divorce. He lives in an apartment, described as modest in some quarters, above his office overlooking Hyde Park in central London and still works five days a week.

Julian Ribet, a partner at Levison Meltzer Pigott, leading specialist family law firm, said: "Unsurprisingly, given the circumstances of the individuals in this case, the structure of this settlement would appear to be unusual. Typically, a wealthy husband would be making payments to his wife, if he holds the majority of the assets. However, where an individual has a financial 'resource', such as regular income from a trust fund, this can be taken into account when deciding which party should make payments.

"Settlements like these are very complicated and need to be very carefully structured. One would expect high net worth individuals like Bernie and Slavica Ecclestone to have received the best legal and tax advice in several countries to ensure their divorce settlement is arranged in the most tax efficient way possible."

The Bambino trust is at the centre of the German case. Prosecutors have accused Mr Ecclestone of bribing Gerhard Gribkowsky, a banker, to act against the best interests of his employer and ensure F1 was sold to a company that had pledged to keep Mr Ecclestone as chief executive. The money came from Mr Ecclestone and the Bambino trust.

In his defence, launched last week, Mr Ecclestone denied bribing Mr Gribkowsky, claiming the former banker had blackmailed him by threatening to supply false information about the Bambino trust to the tax authorities.

Mr Ecclestone's defence claims the £26 million was hush money and has branded the accusations against him "incorrect, misleading and incoherent". The hearing will reconvene on Friday.

Another red-blooded American man destroyed by a modern-day Jezebel and the courts that enable them.

And to think it was a brief year ago that I was depressed about being single.

Why would you ever be depressed about being single? A woman can smell that level of desperation a mile away.

Brutal  :(

When the man places a spotlight on the lawyer profession, he is dead right. Most of these sharks are evil and empty individuals who ruthlessly exploit the system in which they work to make insane money, not caring about the lives and emotions that are damaged.

And marriage can be one of the most deadly routes for the parties involved, no doubt. Speaking as a man, the tales I endlessly hear about how the institution has deteriorated every aspect of their lives is shocking.

If you are going to get married, choose VERY WISELY AND CAREFULLY. Always protect yourself.
^^
ALWAYS get a pre-nup arranged!!!

Wait, she's just paying him back his own money?  He put everything (including an F1 team) in her name so that if he died she wouldn't have to pay estate tax.  Now she has to give him back his empire one month at a time... Good grief.  6'2" whadda mess

For UK Getbiggers - Programme on tonight on BBC1 Panorama at 20:30 exposing Ecclestone and the tax deal he had in place with HMRC as a result of his divorce - should be interesting viewing.

They'll slowly become Americanized...
The problem with America is that we've become a nation of extremes. You cannot be extremely liberal and extremely conservative (going The Scarlet Letter route). Until we acknowledge that it is within the middle ground that our success as a nation lies, then we will continue to destroy ourselves---men and women, children, youth and old people, with infighting from our own selfish extremist agendas.

Sorry, not true.  The average conservative is just the same as usual.  Conservative, average.

The extreme leftists however, have gone OFF THE RAILS.  And it is the media behind it.
