Its usually a women thing. I am sure most men do not care where they get married. If I ever get married, Id be happy eloping to get married. I dont need a big, fancy wedding. As I said, its usually the lady who wants a big wedding.

Screw that noise. My girl wants a simple-plain wedding. Church for the nuptials, with immediate family, and then a nice dinner out. The only agreement I had to make was taking her on a nice honeymoon. At most this will cost me 7-8k. Much better than blowing 30k on a reception filled with people I hate.

It is easy for the costs to spiral out of control. Wedding planners are worse than used car salesmen and lawyers combined. I don't know how many times I heard, "oh, that wasn't included" throughout the process. Something I thought would cost us about $12k ended up costing about $16. I even got a bill afterwards for another $1,000 because they said that we stayed 30 minutes too long. I told them go fuck themselves. Me and my wife halved it, so it wasn't too terribly bad, but I felt like shit spending that much, I couldn't imagine spending over $20k.

All women want their fantasy wedding... they all dream about it from the time they are little girls.  Their knight in shinning armor will come and whisk them away.

Societal customs/stigmas are programed into people starting from when they are born.  It must be the right thing to do because everyone is doing it.

The last 5 weddings I have been to have been over 100K. In the NJ/NY/ Conn, area they really go all out. I know in other states they do back yard or fire house wedding.

I spent $2K on my wedding.

$1K for my wife and I to each fly to a destination all inclusive wedding in the caribbean.

Cheap, easy, they take care of everything, and it was nice and sunny.

To each their own.

I sure as hell wouldn't spend $27K on a party. Bunch of people I don't even like or know, drinking a bunch of booze I paid for...forget it.

I'd be creeping my own free bar eyeballing people as they walked up to get a shot. Not on my dime, third-cousin-twice-removed-Walter-on-my-wife's-side. Not unless there's a $350 check in that tinfoil swan you saw at the entrance way, you cheap bastard.
