It's a smart idea including the original characters plus new. They'll hope they can attract the old school fans plus new fans and hope that the old school fans like the new characters enough to come back and watch the sequel.

I'll wait and see the reviews before dishing out any money.

Kylo Ren
Supreme Leader Snoke
General Hux
Captain Phasma

Ren, Snoke and Phasma survive the movie.

General Hux dies at Starkiller base at the end of this movie.

Finn has Luke's saber because Rey (his niece) is repulsed by it. The pirate (and possible former Jedi padawan) Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong'o) tells Leia to let Finn hold it knowing that it will "find its way back to Rey" when she is ready to accept her destiny.

That is why Finn (John Boyega) is being seen on the teaser poster and toy ads with the blue lightsaber. He holds it for most of the film.

The original light saber prop is much thicker. They trimmed it down a bit so it's easier to grip.

Force Friday is for the release of some (not all) of the toys, not the trailer.

Notice that we haven't even seen Supreme Leader Snoke yet.

The rumor is that the trailer is coming in the next few weeks. One rumor is that it is coming on Sunday the 13th, the start of the NFL season.
