I enjoy coming here Groink. Do you view everything in life as "doom and gloom"?

I know I have a problem. I would rather share it with my internet friends on Getbig, then with strangers in AA.

There are many helpful people here.
How many people here have you actually met?
::)

You fucking imbecile.....A.A. is real life where people at meetings know where you`re coming from.

They aren`t gonna` coddle you and listen to excuses, they`re gonna` tell you that if you aren`t ready to quit,go out and get drunk and to come back if you ever get ready........anything else is moot.

You sound like a moron........drink or don`t drink, you`re in charge.....well you`re supposed to be anyway.

Thats not what he meant Ugly.  He was saying that AA would be better. I was using his own quotes to show him how I think, Getbig is a better option.

I listen to what you guys have to say.

Yes

No

I have tried to help you many times on here.

If you were honest with yourself and us about quitting, you go to A.A.......there is no shame in it and what`s said there, stays there......in fact you don`t have to say a single word and most will tell you to shutup and just listen at first.

AA is shit if you are atheist, like me. It was started by a guy who was the stereotypical WASP. For them alcohol was unusual. He used it to be a showoff, a cad, a man on the town and to be a dickhead. For many Irish people alcohol was to blackout misery and unhappiness. You really think that philosophy is applicable in both cases?

Getbig is not a better option dude.........you are smarter than that.

You`d be sitting there posting while drinking in your "quit drinking thread".

Can`t do that nonsense at AA.

I listen to what you guys have to say.

But he told you what you should do, because it worked for him and countless others. Sounds like help to me, regardless of whether or not it's what you wanted to hear.

NA and AA are dependent on personal honesty but also on acceptance of the 12 steps. When you don't believe in a higher power and that is a fundamental prerequisite it starts to break down. You have to take personal responsibility for your actions.

It isn't up to a higher power to stop you drinking or taking drugs. It takes personal will power and, more often than not, some catastrophic incident like an overdose, arrest etc for the person themselves to realise.

I respect you more then anyone I could meet at AA.

Tons of caring, smart, and sarcastic bastards on here. In all honesty, my drinking diary was 100% truth. I did go days without drinking, then I would cave, and try to rationalize it.

I would even try to make fun of the situation sometimes.  I'm not asking you guys to hold my hand.

I'm asking you to catch me if I fall.

Are you posting while drunk?  :D

When I was recovering from drug abuse talked to my therapist about it. Rehab I'd done based on AA hadn't worked...partly because I was atheist, mostly because I thought 12 step system was bs and I had easy access to drugs.

What I posted is true. The founder of AA used alcohol as a privileged dickhead, so had to humble himself. People who have nothing can't be humbled. When they drink it isn't to be extravagant, it is to forget issues. Think both should be treated the same?

Thanks for sharing but you don`t need to believe in God to attend AA meetings.

They tell you this when you get there........you can use anything as your choice of a higher power, your desperation due to drinking for instance.

I was never a proponent of AA in the beginning, but after having failed at my two zillion attempts to quit alcohol and drugs,AA is what eventually worked for me.....of course I wanted to quit, but having others that had experienced some of the same things that you had experienced was a huge help.

Wes is being as stubborn as I am. I appreciate the AA angle, but I do not think that is the route I want to take.

I think I have all the support I need on Getbig.

Dude, you`re talking to the king of dual diagnosis here!  :)

Let me put it this way,if you got clean and sober, who gives a flying fuck about the route you took as long as it worked for you?

Congrats by the way......not an easy task to accomplish.

Don`t fuck with me again,or I`ll correct your fucking grammar!  ;D

Given Shizzo's posts below I'll leave it at this. I had shared meetings, NA/AA and also sex addicts, shopping addicts etc. Shopping addict was a guy btw. I just couldn't identify with anyone but also, I didn't want to stop. The main reason I stopped was a cut in supply for a few months. It took that to build myself back up - to go out clean, to do certain things clean (even a restaurant was difficult)... now it seems repulsive to me to take it with work the next  day or my son to look after. Getting priorities straight takes a break from a substance, whatever it is.

If you fuck up after that it's on you.
