I loved Top Gear a few years back but it has gone pretty stale for the past few series. The guys just try too hard to be funny now and everything seems scripted - yet it was the unscripted and unpredictable nature of the show which made it so great to begin with.
As for Clarkson, it was reckless of him but he's a good dude. Hopefully it doesn’t have much impact on his career.

6 episodes is not what I call a season.

it was three years ago as well

the media over here are cu nts

any chance to stick the knife in and they are all over it

thousands of people that haven't even seen the video will complain and try and get him sacked

its like the Jonathon ross and russel brand thing a few years ago

they got 15 complaints at them time

then 30000 people that hadn't even heard the broad cast complained after it was in the papers

we are a nation of pathetic bitter jealous idiots

Remember when Gordon Brown (no matter what our opinion of him as a politician) he was dealing with his own disabled child health issues (i think he died later), papers dug up detailed info about the condition and published it, which rightly so he was very upset about. That's just sick to even go there and why? we can't even leave a man to face his own family health issues with dignity and privacy.

In the UK, the average "season" for a show will only have around 6-10 episodes. I know its triple that number in the US.

That is no season...you are just getting into the season by the fifth show.

I used to watch the show Chef, so I had to get used to long dialogue. Brits like to dialogue, whereas Americans are short and sweet. So, a short season would be more American than anything else.

Fifth Gear to me is a better gear head show. Top Gear is more entertainment. And the Drive Channel YouTube is better than both of them.

A car show I currently enjoy is Wheeler Dealers. Buying old classics, restoring them and selling them for profit.
Worth checking out.

yes, wheeler dealers is a great show. I particularly like the episodes of the BMW 8 series, Jaguar Mark 2.

If the president values how economics work, he won't touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Did the show's host make an off-color remark? Yes. Was it intentionally hateful and meant to hurt someone? Of course not. It was stupid and childish, and that's about it.

But banning a show because of these remarks pushes towards MacCarthyism.

There are things the FCC has in place to deal with this if it airs, which it didn't. So if the arm of the president for enforcing good programming is toothless, the president should be as well.

There are other ways to squeeze a show off the air.

Let the advertisers and stations that pick up the show make the decision. Most will err on the side of caution and drop the show anyway for fear of the wrath of a social media driven outcry against products and networks affiliated with the show. After all, if you make Porsche, do you want a racist riding around in your car for the world to see? Forget as to whether he is or not...can you really take the chance? Last time I checked, african americans like porshes too. If you run that brand, you aren't taking the chance of having a guy in the public eye, who's brought down the ire of social media agenda-ists, riding arund in your flagship brand for all to see. You're getting your car off the show. Same goes for the guys who sell Bridgestone, and United Airways, and Johnny Walker whiskey.

Fine...that's business and the politics of business talking. And that's how these things get handled. The president knows as much anyways.

But to put his neck out on this one...he's not a complete idiot. No one gets that high up in the office without learning that the court of public opinion can put pressure on business far easier and faster than the oval office, without tarnishing or besmirching the political party.

Why should the president fight it? The fight's already over...I guarantee networks will drop the show and advertisers will run screaming. Not very sexy or public, but equally effective.

It's just that the radicalist agenda doesn't get to kick the president out in front of their little causes. But I'm sure they'll live to fight another day too.
