If the president values how economics work, he won't touch it with a 10 foot pole.
Did the show's host make an off-color remark? Yes. Was it intentionally hateful and meant to hurt someone? Of course not. It was stupid and childish, and that's about it.
But banning a show because of these remarks pushes towards MacCarthyism.
There are things the FCC has in place to deal with this if it airs, which it didn't. So if the arm of the president for enforcing good programming is toothless, the president should be as well.
There are other ways to squeeze a show off the air.
Let the advertisers and stations that pick up the show make the decision. Most will err on the side of caution and drop the show anyway for fear of the wrath of a social media driven outcry against products and networks affiliated with the show. After all, if you make Porsche, do you want a racist riding around in your car for the world to see? Forget as to whether he is or not...can you really take the chance? Last time I checked, african americans like porshes too. If you run that brand, you aren't taking the chance of having a guy in the public eye, who's brought down the ire of social media agenda-ists, riding arund in your flagship brand for all to see. You're getting your car off the show. Same goes for the guys who sell Bridgestone, and United Airways, and Johnny Walker whiskey.
Fine...that's business and the politics of business talking. And that's how these things get handled. The president knows as much anyways.
But to put his neck out on this one...he's not a complete idiot. No one gets that high up in the office without learning that the court of public opinion can put pressure on business far easier and faster than the oval office, without tarnishing or besmirching the political party.
Why should the president fight it? The fight's already over...I guarantee networks will drop the show and advertisers will run screaming. Not very sexy or public, but equally effective.
It's just that the radicalist agenda doesn't get to kick the president out in front of their little causes. But I'm sure they'll live to fight another day too.
