Something I've observed in the gym
« on: August 05, 2014, 04:31:49 PM »

This is how most guys work out

Arms - free weight 2 times a week
Chest - free weight  3 times

Shoulders mostly machines

Legs - machines , or quarter squats
Back - machines all the way no chins no dead lifts or barbell rows
choice is an illusion

Back is a prime example, most guys don't know how to train it properly; swings and (almost) no stretch/contraction.

you can tell the difference.  You KNOW when you see a person that trains full body.  Their back and thigh and rear end have a 3D that the part-time arm trainers just totally lack.

x2 most people put on heavy weight and lean all the way back to pull it, that take the stress off the lats and put it on the middle back that is why most of these gym rat have no lats.

I've never understood the inner and outer thigh machine....every time I see a girl use it, I think, "she thinks her thighs are fat." But wtf is that machine going to do for them?

And I think women use lat pulldown because it isn't very intimidating

Here is mostly old whales who do them, after the eliptical. It seems like it's a break for them; they use lights weights and a slow pace and drink a sugary drink and check their phones.
There was one twinky guy who tried the inner thight machine, but I think it was to tough for him. He's also the one keeping the girly weight dumbells occupied for endless sets of texting.

I don't see many women on the lat pull... Actually, no women at all, except for myself. Oh well, I'm not strong enough (yet) to pull up my too much body weight.

so fucking true
took me over 2 years to figure out how to properly isolate lats
i think i learned it from standing cable pushdowns with arms extended

i remember when i did dumbbell rows with 90lbs DBs for 20or so reps after like 1 year of working out lol. didnt do shit of course cuz it was all pulling/biceps work

now i use the 30lbs dumbbells for even less reps and just "flex" lats with the weight.
my back is easily twice as wide now

If they ain't squatting they ain't training legs.

They perform lunges in my gym, but only in the smith machine in front of a large mirror so they spot you directly when you're staring.
I seem the only one who performs walking lunges (no homo)

Walking lunges are de rigueur in my gym, far better way in my opinion, you keep going til you reach end point no matter how dead your legs are.

If you think men's bodybuilding mags are bad, women's ones like Oxygen feature only leg or abs articles (in every issue exact same workouts), women reading are even more ignorant about the usage of PEDs by the models and the advice column... "Jackie how do I get abs?" "blah blah blah and take my overpriced protein and snake oil capsules" is the template answer.

I do pull ups, deads, squats, SOHP... all the exercises the experts recommend and I'm still a tiny tit.

They are much better than standing lunges. Keep up the good work.

That's a good observation. Also the majority do a limited range of motion so they can handle heavy weights to deceive their ego that they are strong. Watch guys leg press. They put the back board up high and they barely bend their legs while they push the weight of a car.  Don't they realize anyone can do that? How about pull downs in the lat machine where they jerk the weight and lean back with the pin near the bottom of the rack? The same guys can't do 10 dead  hang and touch the chest with the bar pull ups. All forms of presses for the chest and delts the same guys never go all the way down. If you ask them why they claim it's injury prevention but the reality it's so they can handle a weight they could never dream of using if they did the complete exercise.  Bodybuilding is full of insecure guys that want to have everyone look at them and their "strong" routine.

How dare these savages not to "chins", deadlifts and barbell rows.

Isn't "mesmorph" the dipshit always posting "who cares what others are doing in the gym" ???
