In a Facebook message today, the father of Schraw’s two boys identified the woman’s killer as a 33-year-old Port Orchard man whose rap sheet includes arrests for domestic violence, harassment, marijuana possession, assault, drunk driving, and destruction of property.

UPDATE: The modified lockdown for the South Kitsap School District has been lifted. “The Kitsap County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that the suspect in the recent homicide is no longer in our state,” Superintendent Michelle Reid said, without providing other details about the suspect

PORTLAND — The suspect in a grizzly killing of a Port Orchard woman was spotted driving the victim’s car early Wednesday morning in Portland, and led police on a high speed chase and escaping arrest.

David Kalac, 33, was spotted around 1:15 a.m. in Portland driving a gold 2001 Ford Focus 4-door believed to be taken from his victim, Portland police said.

Police tried to stop the vehicle, officers said, but Kalac allegedly sped away and led police on a high-speed pursuit. He drove across the Ross Island Bridge, and the pursit was stopped near Southwest 30th Avenue as he was allegdly swerving into oncoming traffic and posed a danger to the community. He was last seen speeding southbound on Barbur Boulevard passing Taylors Ferry Road.

Kalac has a criminal history and has previously been charged with felony assault, felony harassment including threat to kill, theft, malicious mischief and drunk driving. Those crimes were in Kitsap County, with the most recent charge coming in April.

Portland police called Kalac the suspect in the killing of a South Kitsap woman found dead in her home by a family member Tuesday. The family member found the woman’s body around 3:32 p.m. in her apartment in the 4000 block of Madrona Drive SE. Detectives say the family member who found the woman’s body at first thought she was just badly injured, but deputies determined she had been killed.

Police did not release how the woman in her 30s was killed, but said it appears she was targeted, and this was not a random assault.

The identity of the women has not yet been released, and the Kitsap County Coroner will make a positive identification and determine the cause of death.

Along with the crime scene, police are focusing on the set of photos posted to various image hosting sites purported to be of the woman’s death. The photos were posted anonymously. However, text accompanying the pictures implies the person responsible for the killing took the photos and posted them online before authorities were alerted to the body.

Detectives have not confirmed the woman in the pictures was the deceased, but a neighbor who had viewed the pictures online told Q13 FOX News the woman in the photographs appeared to be the South Kitsap resident.

IT specialists are contacting the hosting website where the photos were posted in an effort to try to find out who put them up them. Detectives are also continuing their investigation at the scene.

The suspect vehicle is a gold 2001 Ford Focus 4-door, with Washington plates 495-YLY. The two back tires are spare car tires, officers said.

Kalac is white, 6’2″ tall, 220 pounds. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He now has an active warrant for second-degree murder.

He is believed to be armed and dangerous.

Anyone seeing the vehicle or Kalac is asked not to approach but immediately call 911.

When the boy left Tuesday morning, his mother was in bed. He returned home later and assumed she was sleeping in. When later she remained in bed, he called his father, who came over, found the woman unresponsive and called 911 about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

South Kitsap Fire & Rescue arrived and confirmed that Coplin was deceased. On the wall of the unit Sheriff’s deputies found writing on a picture, “she killed me first.” The victim's purse had been dumped out, and on her license was written “dead.”

Neighbors interviewed by deputies said they heard a loud and violent argument coming from Coplin's apartment unit late on Monday, as well as “loud banging and thumping noises from the apartment."
