I do know that Jack Torrence is looking into the mirror when he is looking at Grady.

It's as if Grady is actually Jack's reflection

Interesting. Never noticed the mirror thing, but it seems entirely possible. He glances away toward Grady a couple times, but mostly he's indeed staring at his reflection. Good eye.

Scene in its entirety:

Never have actually sat down and watched it. I've seen bits and pieces, but never watched it or know how it ends. This thread has drawn my interest.

Even looking at those still shots scares me. That movie is so crazy, right down to the "out there" keyboard music during the intro.

Ah.

Are we to infer Tony possessed the old innkeeper as well, and then Jack?

"I corrected them, sir." Perfect.

favorite part of the movie... Delbert F'In Grady...

So the director crafted all these scenes so years down the line they can be overlayed on Photoshop and match up with other scenes and supposedly mean something? I find it hard to believe this was deliberate. Do the same with other movies and you'd probably be surprised what you see by coincidence.
the shining is just ok to me, very slow, not enough happens. That bear man shot was always freaky though, very weird, never forgot it

Kubrick is known to do this. Every single movie he filmed everything had to be perfect...Kubrick tells stories within stories...Really into symbolism. Which now almost every director is...

I saw the documentary that told of how Kubrick had cans with Native American labels.... to support the fact that the Overlook Hotel was built on Native American tombs

Juicy stuff, but it's just one of way too many fan theories to take seriously.

That is Vivian Kubrick (Stanley’s daughter) shooting this.  In current money it costs 25 dollars a minute to run the camera she is using.  Basically an expensive home movie.  The completed film is 35 minute long.  The shooting ratio for cinéma vérité is quite extravagant.  Let’s say 20 to 1. (twenty minutes of footage for every minute that makes it to the final film) At 20 to 1 ratio that would mean she used 700 minutes of 16mm film stock.  Ignoring the post production costs, she burned up  17,500 dollars of film stock to make this.

Mere pin money.

It's the Dies Irae chant.  "The Day of Wrath."  Not as spooky at a jauntier BPM.

The shinning is of my of my favorite movies. Don't really care for the in depth look at the bear man or any of this other related s.hit. I just know I can really relate to Jack Nicholsons character in the film. When I watch this film I slimline it speaks to some dark side of me.
