Hunting for Bug game for sport = guy.

Agreed. They sit so proudly next to it, as if its such a big accomplishment to kill a beast from 100 yards away with a high powered rifle.  ::) ::)

Actually, that Cape Buff will still kill you, rifle or not. Generally, you get them to charge so you can get a clean head shot. And if you miss, you'd best hope your hunting guide is backing your ass up, because that buff is a man killer with a mean streak a mile wide. Only the fucking hippo is more dangerous in Africa.

So the animal's size makes them off limits?

Up here, the biggest danger is ticks that all carry Lyme disease. But we have quite a few predators too: black bear, mountain lion, wolf, coyote, bobcat and fucking hawks that look like they could carry away a full grown goat.
sounds crazy man... thatīs what i mean. you got to know what you are doing out in a place like that. I would definitely inform myself and go out with a local to learn what the dangers are. Could just see me driving around with my pick up and rifle... a horny chick like from the Dukes of Hazard...would be great too  ;D

Nothing more alpha then having your dogs tree a beautiful giant cat, and then stand under it and shoot it down. Big game hunters are the biggest douche bags on the planet. And this is coming from an avid outdoorsman

I live in the mountains along the AZ and NM border. We have bear, wolf, mountain lion, coyote and bobcat. Elk, deer, pronghorn antelope and all the little critters. I hike far into the woods with wife and our dog. I will only shoot (16 clip Ruger) a critter if it threatens our lives. Otherwise we chase them off or move slowly out of their way. We are but trespassers on their land. I am OK with my Apache neighbors hunting for food on their reservation.

I despise trophy hunting.

Our ancestors also didn't hunt Cape Buffalo. Not worth the effort and the loss of life.

I agree.

We should go back to our ancestors ways and only use sharp sticks and rocks to slowly beat and bleed the animals.  ::)

You know why I like to hunt? Mostly because I like to walk through the woods with friends. That I have a rifle slung across my back makes no difference to me. Many, MANY "successful" hunts my rifle never left the right-shoulder sling.

It's a certain amount of stress to actually shoot. You are trying your hardest to make the kill as clean and as humane as possible all the while preserving the maximum amount of edible meat (high velocity rounds damage so much of the meat with hydrostatic shock. It literally liquifies the muscle. I usually use a very slow moving .45/70 round).

There is no honor in killing anything, so it is up to us to do our best to maximize the benefit to our families.

very well put!!

aj i would love to go hunting with you. Like i wrote before hunting and going in the wilderness is an art in its self and you need experience. Like living and surviving in a jungle and tropical environment. The Dangers are small Parasites.

Yes, all those hunters who go into the wilderness with their portable televisions, gps tracking devices, electric/gas powered stoves, electric heaters, and cell phones. Yes, really experiencing what our ancestors experienced. Really experiencing that wilderness life and getting in touch with nature. Really surviving in that cozy tent, all huddled up next to your electric heater. Must feel awesome to feel what our ancestors did.

Yes, they hunted more bigger and dangerous animals without the use of guns.

They used fire and wolves to run the Woolly Mammoth off cliffs. Yes, that's much more sporting.

At least with fire you have to be somewhat up close and personal. More braver than shooting something from 100 yards out. They also used bow n arrows, spear tips, as well as many other weapons that involved up close and personal form of attack. Now its all high powered rifles from 100 yards out lol. How can you even compare that to how our ancestors hunted? lol haha. Not even close.

Bows are close-quarters weapons?

The Cape Buff shot above was probably done at about 30 yards. The bush that they live in usually make it difficult to see beyond that.

The last time I went wild boar hunting in FL, it was in a fucking swamp. The sow I took (and made some sweet pulled pork out of) was a contact shot with my revolver in a thicket. It took me 45 minutes to get that fucker out of there.

Close quarters, no. But not high powered either. Takes a lot more skills to build a cross bow and use it efficiently, then walking into walmart and buying a high powered rifle.

Lets be real here: Our ancestors had a lot less resources and technology and still were badass hunters. You can't compare than to the hunter today. Sorry, just no comparison.

How do you know what conditions I have lived under? Maybe I grew up poor, living on the streets growing up. Sorry, I was unaware that you knew my life history. Carry on.
