I haven't lived everywhere, so for me to say the USA is #1 is just ignorant. There are a lot of things I like about the US, there are a lot of things I don't. Saying it's the best by people haven't lived everywhere is like a 17 yr old Christian born in Kansas to Christian parents declaring Christianity is the only true religion. When I retire, I plan to live in various countries, travel the world because I realize there are a lot of places out there with a lot to offer.. Of course Bosnia, Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan probably won't be on my itinerary.

The abject poverty is much more evident in the places you mention, but poverty and hunger exists pretty much everywhere. I worked at a suburban elementary school. About 80% of the students were on the free or reduced lunch program. Some kids were identified as not getting enough food at home over the weekend. These kids were sent home on Fridays with lunch sacks to insure they got some nutrition. Free and reduced lunch programs mean the kids get breakfast, lunch and if they are in an after school program, a snack.

i don't think the standard of 'poverty' in the USA closely fits the definition for the rest of the world.  if parents don't feed their kids it is likely some other failing.  even the poor have abundant access to food (among other things like cell phones, running water, heat/AC, etc.) in the USA.

I don't think cell phones taste very good and it is dubious whether there is any nutrients in them. Illegal immigrants do not qualify for these things. A large portion of the student body was Latino. One might assume that the number of kids whose parents weren't entitled to U.S. government programs such as WIC was relatively high.

Not for nothing, but I recall pretty much every damn one of my "ethnic" elementary schoolmates (probably 75% of student body) having the free lunch ticket.

Poverty in America isn't what it used to be. Poverty used to mean skinny and starving. Did u see the stat for overweight people on food stamps?

Ask the police officers, firefighters, and paramedics what they see when go into impoverished areas n America.
Often one will have a large screen tv, cable, wheels on their car and a nice stereo. Doesn't apply to all but u didn't see this 30 years ago.

i've literally been all over the country (minus alaska) and have seen quite a bit.  that goes for inner cities as well as some very remote or rural areas. 

if you are pretending that poverty in the usa is comparable to eastern europe, south east asia, indonesia or anywhere in the middle east or africa i will call bullshit.  not saying it doesn't necessarily exist but the difference in rate and definition is enormous.
