I highly doubt that he makes anywhere close to that much money but I don't think one's kitchen is a good indicator here.

Some people just don't really care that much about furniture and stuff like that. I was making more than 40k per month and still I bought rather
cheap furniture (and if my gf didn't insist I would not have bought any at all probably) because I don't care about it that much. I was living in
a cheap 3 bedroom appartment, the same that I was staying in when I was earning minimum wage. After staying in a few ~700$/night suites
when on holiday I quickly decided that this was not the right place for me and was going back to 20$/night hostels and cheap hotels.

I did however spend a lot on things that I like.

I'm not saying I believe this scrub is making 40k a month.  But if a person were to be making anything close to that amount of money selling drugs every month, said person would probably not want to spend to much of it.  Spending all that money would bring attraction of the police.

I agree. However spending $3,000 for a comfortable nice pad in Tampa, Florida isn't exactly flaunting your drug sales proceeds. 

Spending $1,200 per month indicates you simply don't have anymore to spend, which is fine, but NOBODY that earns over $10,000 (which is way more than he makes) a month lives in a studio apt with a 100 sq ft kitchen.

No. I was talking about after taxes and with "more than 40k" I meant a whole lot more than 40k per month.

However it was only for a brief period of time (9 months pretty much before the "Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsauf sicht" put an end to my business) - if it makes you happy
I am only making around 1.900 Euro per month as of now and I'm working ridiculous amounts of overtime.

I'm friends with Jon too and thats not what he intimated to me.  I don't know for sure what he makes monthly but I do know he's not blowing it. He moved to Orlando to see what it was like so he rented a cheap apartment.

When i was single this was my scenario so it's believable

Downtown real estate (Chicago) is expensive and 10k per month (gross) doesn't go too far with a car payment, parking and a 300k studio apt/ condo with assessments

Its possible....
