Feeling sore but good.  Ten sets of 20 on down to 5 reps with the same weight on dumbbell laterals, machine shoulder presses and finally machine rear delts.   Followed this with 5 sets of barbell curls with the same modus operandi as shoulder work and then 5 sets of dumbbell curls same method.

Followed by in the same vein with tricep pushdowns and machine close grip benches.  Five sets each way cable wrist curls and then a few sets of machine sit ups with weight.    I should be sore tomorrow and worse on Sunday.

Following Steve Davis' journey albeit a few decades later than him, I am still dieting down.  Body fat was given as 19.1% versus 24%.  Taken with one of those electronic devices so accuracy is whatever it is.  Regardless I'm using it as my benchmark.  I am fluffy but less so than before.  I am also weak but I have no doubt I will never be what I would consider strong again.  I am okay with that.

Maybe.   ;)

I need to stop the perma-bulking look, especially at my age.  I have been as large as 250 lbs when I was young but no more.  I want less because I think it will be "more" in a good way.  More healthy.  More like what it means to be a real physical culturist.  More attractive to the general population.  Just more without being more fluffy!   I feel like Rodney Dangerfield...No respect!  ;D    I want the Steve Reeves look but am more a cross between him and Draper.  Knowing this will help me remain realistic while focusing on leaning out.  I expect this to take a year or more and hopefully I will not waiver.

Scott how old are you? Just curious since you say you are older than Steve Davis. I think Steve is in his early 60's?

Oldtimer1, sorry for the confusion.  I am 57 and meant to convey that I was following in Davis' footsteps a few decades after he dropped all his unnecessary weight.  I think Davis said he was currently 66, so he has me by nine years.  Looks better than me too!

My leg and shoulders feel older though.   ;D

atta boy Donny!!!

simple and to the point!!!
I think so too...thanks.  ;D
I did this yesterday. I did two circuits of these exercises. Little to no rest between. Had me breathing like a race horse.

Max reps for all
1. pull ups
2. push ups
3. body weight rows. (grab a bar in a waist high rack facing the ceiling with feet on bench. Dead hang and pull chest to bar.) Fantastic movement.
4. Lunge jumps for height alternating legs 1 x 8 for each leg. ( for power and explosiveness. These had me breathing like a race horse)
5. Military clean and press 1 x 6.

Then I went for a 3 mile run in the heat. I ran a good time but was limited by doing the lunge jumps prior.

Body weight stuff gets put down by bodybuilders but truth be told you can take the biggest steroid pro and reduce him to an exhausted mess by just doing stuff like push ups and burpees.
funny you should post this i was thinking myself about doing a timed circuit yesterday on my arm training. Used to do this a fair bit. 15 seconds work,( 10 seconds rest between exercises) and 1 minute rest between circuits doing 3-5 circuits(8 exercises). for arms a diffrent circuit of course. Here is a boxing circuit i used a lot when doing Ving tzun ( wing chun.)

Just 4 exercises repeated and no rest between except if you finish the shoulder press, upright rowing, and nieder press in under 1 minute.
Circuit done 6 times-NO stopping

jump rope 1 minute
crunches (bringing elbows and knees together) 1 minute
alternate shoulder press 10 reps,upright rowing 10 reps,Nieder press 10 reps.All done in 1 minute or less.
punch bag 1 minute.

this is a a great workout and if you have no box sack you can use alternate punches holding light weights. Most people need to rest between circuits but the idea is to work up to no rest !

Donny, I've thought about using a pair of dumbbells for light punching just to get in better shape and besides, outside of the obvious pain involved I think it would be kinda fun.  Like when I used to toss DBs into the air back and forth until I could no longer do it. Great bicep pump and really good for your grip.  And sort of like hitting yourself in the head.  Feels great when you stop!   ;D

But I really do think punching with DBs would be beneficial and am curious as to your thoughts on shoulder stress while doing the exercise as well as any other positive or negative thoughts on it.  Thanks!

I did this to improve my endurance in holding my hands up. Doing the Nieder press you can use a Barbell plate or a medicine ball. arm swings with two light Dumbbells are another great exercise that no one does now.  you can use no weight on the punches if you do the circuit because by the time you do them your delts will be tired. Strength and endurance are trained. remember these exercise were used by us for Boxing purposes. I think if i was you i would get a heavy medicine ball to throw in the air rather than a Dumbbell  ;D  I think as long as you do some rear delt and upper back work on your weight days you should not have a problem with weighted Dumbbell punches. If you do try Dumbbell swings.

I experience some digestion problems due my use of antibiotics en ibuprofen (infection), so I bought some Yakult light.
Do you guys use certain probiotics and do you experience benefits like better digestion, more energy, etc? If so, which brands are your favorites?

Of course I'm not a doctor but antibiotics can destroy good bacteria in your digestive track that can mess up your stomach.  Some are just hard like they are acidity. I suffered from stomach pain and digestive problems for 6 months. Looked like hell, had so many tests done and saw a bunch of doctors. I was on several medications. In the end it went away suddenly and strangely never came back. I did stop using protein powders and creatine. Could it be impurities in that crap that caused it? Supplements are not regulated in any way contrary to popular belief. Who knows where they sourced their materials from?

Since arriving in Germany last Monday, I have been suffering from indigestion. Germans don'teat enough fiber. My son picked up some Metamucil at the ccommissary for me the other day. Hopefully the stomach cramps will subside soon.

It can be hard to discover the true relationship between certain foods/supplements and health issues, but yeah, killing the right ones and impure supplements are possible scenarios.
It's not impossible to get my daily protein (250gr) from foods only, but far from convenient. I limit my whey to 7 small scoops/spoons and I choose unflavored powders only.
The thing is that most huge brands (Yakult, Danone, etc) have their own custom bacteria, but how well are they researched by independent authorities?

I've been in Germany many times, and they have pretty dense bread, a bit Ezekiel like. My oat meal is from Hahne, which is a German brand, so that could be a good source as well.

I could just imagine itīs a bit of a shock to Jay the average diet here. We have a "health food  shop" near me and i go in there once/twice a week and buy a few items. Dropping plates mentioned Bread. I only eat vollkornbrot. if you go in the supermarkets here you can get enough good wholesome food. Buying it all the time from the Health shop is way too expensive.

I'm not a big cheese fan myself, apart from a thick pizza and quark every now and then.

was running through the woods today with a guy who i know from the gym. He looks in great shape and is an experienced lifter. In the Gym he does only HIIT cardio and never steady pace cardio. Today he really struggled on the steady run. i think a combination of Interval training and steady cardio is the key. I always do 2x a week Interval on the cross trainer and also steady pace running outside. opinions ??

It depends on what your goals are. I believe that you can be an 'OK lifter' and an 'OK runner', but a great lifter AND a great runner? Nearly impossible.

The bread is good. It is the absence of vegetables that is the problem. At home, my diet is vegetable and fruit rich. Anyway, the metamucil has kicked in and all is better.

Today was my grandaughter's wedding. It has been a long day's celebration which b included lots of walking, a ton of food and an I credible amount of livation. Needless to say, nothing is bothering me at the moment. I danced my ass off tonight. I've had more flavors of schnapps then I knew exsisted. All is good.

On vacation so I'm doing just crap to get by. Yesterday the life guards a called everyone out of the water for sharks. I actually saw two of them about 4 to 5 feet long in two feet of water in South Carolina.

I did this workout in the condo gym yesterday.

Pulldowns 4 x 10
dumbbell rows 3 x 10
machine bench 4 x 10-4
flat flies 3 x 10
dumbbells shoulder press 3 x 10
dumbbells lateral raises 3 x 10
machine trap shrugs 2 x 10
rope triceps push downs 3 x 10
pulley bar curls 3 x 10

Then I went for a one mile run on the sand.  Drank a lot of beer but woke up looking tight and tan. Go figure.

Today I ran for 2.4 miles on a hilly street. I then did a very compromised leg routine. The condo gym had a smith machine. I tried doing squats on it but it didn't feel right. So I did this.

Dumbbell ass to grass squats upright 3 x 12
seated calf raise 3 x 15

This was done after the run.  Sat outside in incredible beautiful weather. Watch a rainbow over the water while drinking  grand mariner. One of the most beautiful places on earth. Love the Atlantic shore.
