Turning Conservatism into "Americanism"
« on: September 08, 2015, 06:15:46 AM »
it's actually pretty brilliant what Trump is doing.

Many Repubs don't really care about conservatism anymore - they want "americanism".
They aren't concerned with policy - they're concerned with bring perceived as "great".

And the best part of americanism is that one of the basic rules of it is that you don't have to fully define it.  Trump WON'T tell us what kind of spending/tax plan equals greatness.  Trump WON'T tell us what a great ISIS policy looks like.  Trump WON'T tell us what kind of SCOTUS appointees are great.  He just promises "great" and stays purposefully vague, since great is different to everyone.

it's worked so far, but Carson is at his heels.  When all of the 5% scrubs run out of $ and start dropping out, do their supporters go for "great" with Trump, or go for actual defined policy (even if he is anti-gun) with Carson?
