Anyone ever listen to these guys? They are opening for Maiden this summer. Seem pretty decent.

Their music is pretty crappy.  I have tried listening to it - it stinks.

Saw Testament a few weeks ago, and they were awesome.

Seeing Metallica this Sunday. Seen them plenty of times, and they never disappoint. I think the new album is pretty good (finally).

Yeah. Not heavy, really, but catchy as hell. "Cirice," "Ritual," and "Square Hammer" had me hooked pretty quick. Almost sound like a rocked-up R.E.M.

Saw Metallica at Metlife Stadium yesterday. Very good show. Go see them if you get the chance on this tour.

Used to really like them a lot. (Early 80's) since then, not so much. (I got to see the Master of Puppets tour w/ Ozzy, with Cliff still alive and on Bass).
He was a HUGE part of their old sound.
New album is better, just they bore/tire me.

Felt same way after the black album, but All Nightmare Long off Death Magnetic is one of their best, IMO.

The first four are mandatory metal records. The self-titled is very well done, but the beginning of the end (I'm not fond of it).

I bought Ride the Lightning as a new release and had a Metallica patch on my jacket in 1984. Bought Cliff 'Em All on VHS.

Fact is, Metallica has stunk for WAY longer than it was great.

Lars' skills have gradually deteriorated (and he wasn't a studied and accomplished drummer to begin with), James has forgotten who he once was (and his well of riff genius has been dry for decades), Kirk has revealed himself to be a very limited, sloppy and unmotivated guitarist, and Robert just doesn't belong.

Cliff definitely contributed a lot to how they sounded. Old school Hetfield at 1:14:28

These are my 2 favorite Metallica shows from the Newsted era:

I only listen up to the Black album.   :D  Not interested in anything from them since then.

Load and Re-Load had some decent songs.

I was furious with Metallica after that St. Anger pile of garbage and barely listened to Death Magnetic.

Hardwired is actually quite good and goes into a different style for them. Give it shot.

Regardless, they still kill it live. I've seen them many times, and as recent as May. Their set list and performance were solid.

They may have faltered with some of those albums, but live, they still got it. The only song they played from the Load and Re-load era was Fuel. They played nothing from Death Magnetic or St. Anger.

All the rest were classics, or from the new album.

The Black Album has aged very well, now that I look back at it. The God that Failed and Don't Tread on Me are two that regularly get passed over or shat on, but I really dig the bouncy subtext of the latter's main riff.
