jpm101: Currently VW corp is #3  (might have changed since their software frauds..they will be paying out mucho bucks). They also run Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Porsche auto plants. Dr Porsche designed and built the first VW bug. He was also a Nazi, big time. The make superior products, which includes Audi is very underestimated car. But here in America, the old VW bus was referred to as Hitler's revenge for losing WW2. Toyota remains #1 in world sells. Side Bar: I drive a Ford F150 duel cab..2012.

jpm101: Yes....25 HP engine or whatever size that sewing machine engine was. Just took 4 bolts to remove the engine.  If ever caught behind a VW bus, driving on a even slight mountain grade or have one driving in the fast lane, going 45mph you would understand. The older ones did make a excellent surfing wagon. All the weight in the back made it easier to go through sand, etc. If headers were added and the timing gears adjusted...much improvement. Went to baja a few times for surfing, a 100 miles from nowhere.. Had to push or lift the back end up a few times.....but worked fairly well.  And easy on gas than.
