According to the University of Sydney's website gunpolicy.org, gun control in France is categorized as "restrictive." Keep in mind that, unlike in the U.S., France does not have a "right to bear arms" — the right to privately own a gun is not protected by law. In order to purchase a firearm, one must first obtain a hunting or shooting sporting license that requires a psychological evaluation and regular renewal. Semi-automatic rifles that can hold more than three rounds, as well as rifles and handguns with military-grade calibers, require permits. Fully automatic weapons are completely illegal for civilians. If one purchases or possesses a gun illegally, the punishment is a maximum of seven years in prison, plus a fine.

Several reports have claimed that the attackers were using Kalashnikov rifles, which are the same kind of automatic weapon that the shooters in the Charlie Hebdo attack used. Experts have theorized that the Charlie Hebdo attackers obtained their Kalashnikovs illegally through the arms black market and that the weapons had been smuggled in from manufacturers in Eastern Europe. A Washington Post article from last January estimates that the number of illegal guns in France is now at least twice the number of legal guns.

The real issue, it seems, lies in cracking down on illegal gun trafficking, not gun laws for private owners.

Oh for fuck sakes....

No one is coming after your guns.  You don't need to hide you guns, you don't need to stock pile them for fear of Obama or the next democrat taking them.  I bet the gun campanies are behind some fo the chicken little scare tactics as gun sales have dramatically increased since OB took office.

Yes there is regulation,  just like there is regulation for fork lift drivers, heavy machine operators, and driver's license.  Some of it may be unnecessary and some of it only seems to make it harder for "law abiding" ones who for example know its stupid to operate a crane drunk.

There are plenty of idiots who don't feel people should be allowed to have guns, but because they exist and some politicians pander to them doesn't mean they are targeting law abiding gun owners with the sole purpose to make harder for them to own guns.

It's also not a Plot, CT or step by step process to repeal the second amendment.

Reasonable smart people on both sides of the isle realize:   "The real issue, it seems, lies in cracking down on illegal gun trafficking, not gun laws for private owners."

But... there are overly stupid people who believe Obama is a commy muslim kenyan born secret agent AND there are overly stupid pacifist, turn the other cheek, civil disobedient, vegan annoying, stoned, non score keeping soccer, liberals who think that all guns owners are bad and all guns are bad and therefore we must make them all illegal.

Let's be real for another second, some of you over zealous conservatives support zero guns laws what so ever making "illegal trafficking" moot.

Many people in France have guns.  ISIS struck in soft venue....a concert and a soccer stadium where no weapons are allowed which is the same in the US and a cafe downtown.

Yes, you can go thru the steps and hoops to buy a gun and keep them in your home.  Updating your ownership licence 3x a year - lol - that's nuts.

But let's talk about the ONLY thing that would have helped these targets in a public setting - CONCEALED CARRY.   All numbers about hunting rifles at home in cabinets are irrelevant.

How many people in France have concealed carry licenses?

240 is right on the money concerning the prevention of such "friendly skirmishes".
Most Europoors who want to carry have a small window of opportunity which includes Taxi drivers(excluding DeNiro), lorry drivers, body guards(aka getbiggers), etc.

It's not uncommon, despite a dangerous occupation, to have to jump through a lot of hoops to get your carrying license.
In short, you're fucked.

Having firearms at home is easier here and a few Americans would be shocked what some "cucks" have been hording in their bunkers.
BUT - thanks to the media weapon owners are mostly portrayed as a fringe group with, most likely, Neonazi-esque ambitions.

what can you do but laugh at the Gun Control idiots...France has such strict gun laws that virtually no citizens own any much less have any experience with them and even the cops are limited on what they have (which is why in the Charlie Hebdo case and this one, they had to call in the military)...

yet despite these laws these muslim immigrants STILL have no problems obtaining dozens of full-auto AK's, ammo, hell even GRENADES, and literally just shoot people with complete impunity UNTIL THE MILITARY ARRIVES because NO ONE has ANY means of defending themselves.

what a total joke
