What on earth makes you think RR was intimidated by Holly. From day one, it was considered a mismatch and Holly, which even she admitted, was given a title shot prematurely.

And I believe you underestimate the Brasilian culture. They are a very macho culture and grow up fighting. Aldo grew up in the Favelas that make our ghettos look like resorts. Aldo is a grim, resolute, seasoned, and hardened warrior that fears and is intimidated by no one. I don't know how Conor grew up but Jose knows a lot about hardship and suffering.

This guarantees nothing but you simply cannot "psyche out" someone like Aldo.

Pellius, you took the words right out of my mouth.  I was going to respond in a similar way but couldn't be bothered.  Amazing isn't it how in retrospect everyone analyzes the situation completely differently.  Before the Rousey fight Rhonda was the all powerful, unbeatable, unflappable champion.  Now the majority say she seemed scared, out of her league, outclassed or burnt out.  The fact is she was as good as she has ever been before fighting Holly.  And you are right, she wasn't intimidated, that was her problem, because if she assessed the challenger correctly she should have been and trained accordingly instead of displaying an arrogant disregard for all her competitors.

I can't tell you how good it still feels seeing that cun+ get KTFO, I for one was never on the Ronda bandwagon and saw right through her from the beginning, I knew she was just the best of a bad bunch and once her division developed some depth she would soon be cast aside.

And to touch on your final point, I also think Aldo is being looked over in this fight against McGregor, I think Aldo will win, and win easily.  Aldo is seriously TOUGH.

Prior to the bout, I had no interest in watching the Holm vs Rousey fight. I was so turned off by the over hyping of Rousey. It was sickening. Hyping a fighter is one thing. But there is a point where fans will turn away if their intelligence is insulted from the hype.

In previous years, to a lesser extent; Chael Sonnen's rants turned me off too.

Good breakdown, but the difference in this fight will be Aldo's powerful leg kicks, which will reduce McGregor's offensive abilities.

Well, Conors main "weapon" is his cross, left cross.  It's a natural counter to the lead leg low kick, he will have to eat one to land the punch, but I think jose will lose that battle, legs vs head. Who lands first? in the ivan benchmark (fucking autocorrect lulu, fawn) hahaha.
jesus, you can barely type on this site anymore. In that fight he just pistons it down the middle in orthodox stance, I think he will get off before jose, jose puts power into everything sure, but he telegraphs, conor is fluid, it's hard to see his punches coming, like diaz, slow but flowing, it freezes people.

Yeah, I just don't know I am buying into all the McGregor hype, I think he is a good fighter but maybe not on Aldo's level.  I could be wrong, and all the hype tends to cloud objective reasoning, but Aldo is unbeaten in ten years for good reason and not because of good luck.  Kind of reminds me of Chael Sonnen talking his way into a fight with Anderson Silva, like that fight I think maybe Connor can hang with Aldo, but when push comes to shove Aldo will have his number.

I am watching some of Aldo's past fights to try and be as objective as possible, thinking of maybe betting on the card this weekend.

Just watched Aldo's last fight with mendes and McGregors fight against Max Holloway.  McGregors style reminds me of the Diaz boys.  He works constantly, mixes it up well, but the majority of his attacks lack any real power.  But like the Diaz boys he throws in an occasional powerful offensive strike.  I see the difference being in power, Aldo definitely throws more powerful combos on a regular basis, and I think the key for him to win is to attack the legs early, weaken Connors stand up and then Aldo should take him down in the middle rounds and look for a submission.

Reasons I dislike Jose Aldo and root for Conor Mcgregor are these:

    • Jose Aldo has pulled off fights 5 title fights now.
    • The strong steroid allegations, when UFC started random testing Aldos trainer called the police on BS visa issue on the commissioner, and they threw the urine sample out. Also they only wanted to fight in Brazil(3x title fights there) and according to many fighters the tests are a joke.
    • Remember Anderson getting caught using steroids? he cited that he used it for an injury, well Aldo has been injured a lot. The times he fought in the UFC outside Brazil he was barely eeking wins, and even got dominated 5thround by Hominick who is nowhere near top10.
    • Conor has been a strong advocate against Steroids since day one!! He doesn't back out on small injuries like other fighters.
    • Mcgregor made the featherweight interesting, before it was lackluster and barely interesting, now it's the Division to watch.
    • Brazilians are known in the BJJ world for using heavy steroids. Aldo may seem humble because he's quiet/introvert but the dude is a more cheat than Mcgregor.

Connor's last loss

Connor's first loss

Conor 1st loss he fought as a boxer, he barely knew the groundgame.. 2nd fight he fought against a submission specialist Duffy who had submitted ufc veteran norman parke before the Mcgregor fight.

Aldos' first loss

I didn't at first, but he has made me a believer, from the first spinning kick in the mendes fight, Chad was hurting, he had Chad running near constantly, in the jose fight, chad stood in the pocket and ate shots, in some cases he almost looked dazed as he was standing straight up, like after the bell, jose gives him a 1-2 and he just eats with no attempt at defence.

With conor once he hits you with a shot another is coming down the pipe before you can react (like diaz), punches flowing from angles, half power with an occasional full power to throw off timing.

Watch the second round of the Max Holloway fight, watch his movement, he is much not going full speed almost ever, you can see how quick he actually is.

check my post history.  on the 13th before the fight I said it was obvious that rousy was scared shitless.  I also said her standup sucks at a time when people were saying she could out box pro males.

I kept saying aldo was intimidated to hell.   when he looked at Connor he had to force his eye contact, it wasn't a look like he couldn't wait to get ahold of him

LOL

Conor is going to destroy Jose, it won't be close.

Conor would have KO'd kenny florian, mark hominick , lamas (who mendes beat senseless). Conor also had a 80% torn ACL in the mendes fight, it was the reason he was moving so much slower, and had such a bad weight cut.

I don't have a whole lot of interest in seeing him in there with Frankie and no interest at all seeing him and Aldo again....

I wanna see him go to 55 !
